Today my family and I visited Mode, but unfortunately the carvery was already finished so we had to settle for tapas. I typically enjoy Spanish tapas, but what we were served was a disappointment and far from authentic. The prawn Gambas were freezing cold and made me feel sick. The patatas bravas were drowned in Frank's hot sauce from a bottle, and nothing seemed fresh or freshly made. My daughter's spaghetti Bolognese was bland as well. For dessert, we were served rock hard profiteroles and a stale brownie.

No real effort to make this authentic tapas ... No olives or bread presented to the table when seated The garlic prawn dish gambas pil pil it 's called in Spain was ok but luke warm when arrived at the table. The menu says it comes with a baguette but no baguette was served. When this was brought to the attention of the waitress she looked at me like I had two heads and didn 't seem to know that this was included. About 8 minutes later she returned with 2 extremely thin toasted slices from a baguette so hard that you could not dip into the sauce of what remained of the dish. I pointed this out to my dining companion and he asked for a few more slices of this bread by which time all our other food had been consumed. The waitress returned this time with about 6 or 7 of the same extremely thin toasted slices of bread (amounting to about a quarter of a full french baguette). There was only this dry bread....no olive oil or balsamic vinegar on the table. Earlier we had asked for vinegar only to be told that due to Covid there could not be bottles on the table. We asked for sachets but they had none. When presented with the bill, it had 2 x spanish toasts for €10 on it. When we confronted the waitress she said it was a mistake, it should only be 1 x spanish toast at €5. The total amount of bread they served on the night would not amount to half a baguette. We spoke with a manager but in the end we agreed to pay the €5. I asked him what was spanish about the bit of bread? We want to support local businesses and the Irish economy but restaurants shouldn 't use Covid as an excuse for servers who don 't smile and hardly listen and have no condiments or dips. Wine was €7 a glass so they were making enough profit. €5 for the bread and the small amount that was presented dry with no oil etc. was a disgrace. It had said that the prawn dish included a baguette in the price. If a Spanish tourist experienced this it would be embarrasing.

We have been to this restaurant a few times when it was known by a different name, but it didn't impress us much. However, we have visited twice since it rebranded as MODE and both times were excellent. Whether it's lunch or dinner, the atmosphere is great, the staff is very attentive and professional. The food is fantastic with a diverse range of options that are all delicious from the appetizers to the desserts. There is also pleasant background music playing. The drink selection comes from the pub, so there is a good variety available. MODE is definitely a place that we will be coming back to.
