This is a lovely spot with fantastic food. My favorite was the alcapurria topped with hot onions. The rice, beans, and chicken with garlic sauce were not only delicious but also quite filling. The owner was very friendly. It's truly a hidden gem! They serve oxtails on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which is a must-try. View all feedback.
What Mercado de la playa doesn't like about Lechonera La Isla:
Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The rude staff member had us waiting outside in the cold for an entire hour. When we finally got inside, I ordered a hot cup of coffee, but he had the nerve to tell me, "I'm alone, no coffee, no tea." I couldn’t believe it! I tried to ask for other items, but he said he could only cook dishes and nothing else. When I requested hot sauce, he handed me three empty bottle... View all feedback.

I tried to ask for other items, but he said he could only cook dishes and nothing else. When I requested hot sauce, he handed me three empty bottles and told me that was all he had. My partner ordered a single pastel, which cost $6! The service and prices have really gone downhill, and I just can’t understand it. To the staff member: it’s a shame how you handle business. Good luck!
So good! I felt I had just landed in P.R everything was perfect rice with gandules some sweet platanos and pernil and chicharrón best place to go and have a great plate of food for real ??
This place is a Harlem Gem. Food never disappoints.
Amazing chicharron de credo with rice and beans. The mojo sauce is amazing. The right balance of acidity and sourness from the lime and the perfect amount of garlic. So so so happy with this place.
I visited this place once while in New York, and I can't stop thinking about it. The owner, who's referred to as Daniel in an article I found online but isn't actually named Daniel, is fantastic. Make sure to try the blood sausage! Having lunch for breakfast is a must, and don’t forget to eat your beans and rice with a spoon. It's worth mentioning that none of the pictures here show that you can actually dine in the restaurant, and I worry it might affect their business, as there are only about four seats available.
