We have visited this place now several times and we can't get enough ! It is a friendly family run place, my Italian is not good, but we just eat enjoy the home cooked food, the antipasti including carpaccio vitello tonato the pasta are our highlights, but the whole menu is great. Just go enjoy! Best to stay there overnight too.
We were visiting family in the Piedmont region of Italy for two weeks. One day my cousin, who lives in Italy, took me on a day trip and we stopped at Il Monarca. It is a beautiful area and the scenery is breathtaking. My cousin had been there several times before and did the ordering for the both of us. I am glad he did. Like the other two previous reviewers we started with the Carpaccio. I have had that dish many times but this was hands down the best I ever had. That was followed by the Vitello con Tonno, (veal in tuna sauce), two different types of pastas with different sauces that we shared and then dessert which was 4 different kinds for each of us-Bonnet, a soft chocolate dessert, Panna Cotta with strawberry sauce, Hazelnut torte and another dessert made from the candy torrone. I can't remember the name of it unfortunately. Everything they make is very regional and everything was fresh and some of the best tasting food I have ever had. We also had the local red wine which was excellent! I can't say enough about how good everything was. As an added bonus near the end of the meal when we were having cappucciono and espresso the owner's adorable 8 year old son came to talk to us. My cousin told him I was from NJ, USA. He excitedly said are you near where the BOSS lives. Being a Springsteen fan I said yes, Bruce lives in my county. He said no I mean the CAKE BOSS on TV. LOL All in all I have to say it was the highlight of my trip. Wonderful company, food and wine...and I an not even a wine drinker. If you have the opportunity to go there you should. You won't regret it.
