Visited Castle Bistro in Chirk on a Tuesday evening, arriving at 5:30pm which was booked in advance. We chose to sit outside and ordered drinks and food shortly after arriving. Unfortunately, we then waited an hour for our food before asking what was happening. The manager came over to apologise and said it “wouldn’t be long,” but we still waited another 30 minutes before the food finally arrived. While waiting, we overheard waitresses asking the young lad who took our order where the order for our table was, which strongly suggested our order had simply never been put through. What disappointed us most was the lack of honesty about the situation. We were offered a complimentary bowl of olives while waiting, but it felt like a very minimal gesture considering the circumstances. When the food eventually arrived, we also had no cutlery and had to ask for it, which again took quite a while to come. Nobody checked on us during the meal to ask whether everything was okay either. To be fair, the food itself was actually nice, but certainly not worth waiting an hour and a half for. We had originally planned to order desserts, but by that point we just wanted to leave. Before leaving, I used the toilets and was shocked by the condition of them. They were filthy, with visible dirt and grime and clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly for quite some time. The owner gave us the bill personally and took £10 off as an apology, explaining that it had been “manic.” However, we arrived when the restaurant was empty at 5:30pm, so it didn’t really feel like a valid excuse. What also stood out was that he couldn’t even look us in the eye while apologising, instead looking down at his feet throughout the conversation. Overall, very disappointing service and poor management. Good food alone isn’t enough to make up for such a frustrating experience.
Booked a table for 2 at 7.30 arrived on time was shown were a table was only to find we could not sit opposite each other as there were to many tables pushed together so much so it was impossible to get to one side of the table as the next table seats where touch the seats on our table pushing them onto our table and very little room left for us to slide onto our seats with out distances to the table dehind ,the table opposites food arrived a salad the customer complained we 've been waiting over an hour for this no apology heard from the waitress, after some time my wife went to place an order and was told it would be at least 3/4 hour why were we not told the long weight before we were seated As a retired head chef it won 't be long before you not only loose your reputation but your customers as well ,it takes a long time to get it and one bad review to loose it.As for the next question how much did I spend NOTHING WE WALKED OUT but think of spending £80 upwards with drinks.
First time visiting this evening, really nice atmosphere and table area in the back. I had the beetroot risotto and it was so so good. The rest of my table got pizza, fish and chips and a curry, they all raved about how nice everything was, the waitress we had was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble for her. We had a celebration cake which she was good enough to put in the fridge for us until we were ready. 100% would recommend to anyone. Vegetarian options also. Will definitely be back when in the area again.
Food was delicious. Service was good...will hopefully return when next in the area.
My wife and I visited 20/04/26 and were pleasantly impressed with the food and the place in general. We both fancied the Persian curry dish, so had the same thing, and really enjoyed it. For us it could have been a little more spicy, but nevertheless, the taste was very nice. The place is a bit on the expensive side compared to others, but the portions are certainly not mean! Don't know what was going on upstairs during our visit, but it sounded like a herd of Elephants doing ballet practice. We'll most likely go back when we next visit Chirk Castle.
