Wonderful recommendation! Amazing service from the minute you walk in the door.
We went to L’Oceanic for dinner, with no reservation. We were the first people there in the big dining room, and for a while I felt we were in the American ghetto, as the hostess/server seemed to be completely ignoring us. The menu was by QR code—we didn’t ask if there was a paper menu. And the code was tiny and easy to miss on the drinks menu. I had the cod with parsley crust and Husband had the skate. Both plates came with a purée of some kind of squash and a spear of asparagus and a little black purée we couldn’t figure out. We asked a server later and she said it was shiitake. It didn’t taste of anything I could identify. The cod was excellent and the sauce it was in was delightful. The parsley was less like a crust and more like a blanket on top of the fish, and the fish rested on a bed of onions. After the plats we decided to get a dessert, so we got “mi tatin” which was apple with a cookie topping and whipped cream. We split a half bottle of Chinon white wine, which went with the fish very well. After the meal we started chatting with the couple next to us, who turned out to be from England. They explained that if you ordered a full bottle of wine, you went to the bar (in the next room) to select it. We had wondered where everyone was going!
