Description

In a charming countryside setting, this pub evokes a mix of experiences. While some guests enjoyed friendly service and acceptable meals, others were left disappointed by cold food and disheartened by the lackluster menu. Highlights include a lovely garden, cozy atmosphere, and commendable fish dishes, although consistency is a clear issue. Patrons appreciate the welcoming staff, and many remark on the exceptional Guinness. Despite some negative encounters and food quality concerns, others express a desire to return for the camaraderie and inviting ambiance. Overall, it's a place of contrasts, where service shines but the kitchen struggles to keep pace.

We were passing and popped in for a late lunch and were surprised how good the food was. The lady that served us was very friendly and helpful The food was lovely. I’m vegetarian and my meal was interesting and delicious. One of us had the pasta and meatballs and I just had to try the sauce it was SO good! You could just taste the ice cream was homemade on site, it was delicious. The pub isn’t smart but it’s really homely and we would definitely return

Such a lovely Mother’s Day, gorgeous country pub with a great atmosphere, great staff who were really attentive and professional. The food was delicious, we had a table to 15 and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thank you and we will be recommending family and friends to visit.

Without a doubt, I was served the worst food I have ever tried in my life. Ordered hunters chicken. Served dry bacon completely covered with awful cheap melted cheese and a thin, small sliver of chicken breast that was entirely tasteless. Did not eat more than a couple mouthfuls. Tried again with the chicken curry. Tasteless, chicken was chewy, seemed entirely microwaved; terrible. Couldn’t eat it. If I had. I may have been ill as the chicken wasn’t even cooked/microwaved properly. Been to hundreds of pubs, this was the first time I left without being fed.Even the diet coke had an unusual aftertaste to it, but I didn’t feel it was worth mentioning that, given the more immediate issue being the food.Mum’s fish (sea bass) was edible as she had eaten it, though the veg was horribly overcooked, but it seems like their fish dishes aren’t as bad as everything else on the menu, not that this is a compliment. The fish was by no means good, just the least bad compared to what I tried. At least it appeared partly fresh. Came as it had 4* reviews on average, but we should have read the reviews as they were not really about the food. No one else was really eating there, which should have given a big enough clue. Service was friendly, but when the food is this bad, it makes you wonder how they can describe themselves as a ‘pub’. Seems like such a waste of an otherwise good venue. Be warned, if you want even just acceptable pub food, go elsewhere.

The sun was shining probably for the last time in 2021 and we fancied sitting outside so called and they managed to accommodate usThose who know the pub know it has a huge gardenHad lovely drinks, great service from the proprietors and dinner. The food was acceptable but the charm and service made up for the food
