Description

Oshio in Chico delivers remarkably authentic Korean cuisine—bold, well-executed dishes like octopus, pork bulgogi, japchae and tteokbokki that locals rave about. Vegetarian options are solid and prices (~$15–$20) reflect American dining. The modern, clean space offers bar seating, high tables and booths, but the ordering layout, basic seating and weak summer cooling can feel awkward. Service and portion consistency vary with larger parties, yet the overall flavor and quality make it a welcome, must-try addition to Chico’s food scene.

Fantastic korean food. Yes, average of $15-$20 a dish might turn some people away but for authentic Korean food, it was worth it.All the food was good, especiqlly the Japchae.Jjajangmyeon was good but tasted similar to what I buy at Asian store for instant ones. Will come again to try different things.

However, there were a few areas for improvement. The rice was served on a plate along with the banchan—side dishes— which is not traditional, and the portion was quite small. Additionally, the rice was not cooked perfectly, so that could use some work as well. Since we were a party of nine, some dishes arrived more quickly than others, causing some of us to finish eating before the rest received their meals. There also seemed to be some confusion regarding the appropriate utensils; for instance, we were only given chopsticks for the bibimbap when a spoon would have been more suitable. At one point, they accidentally burned their last serving of sesame chicken, which led one person in our group to have to place another order and pay the difference, even though that should have been comped. The restaurant was warm inside, and with a fan running, it wasn't the most comfortable environment in 100-degree weather. Another downside was that two of the staff members were arguing, which, while it may not affect everyone, we understood everything they said and it was a bit uncomfortable. Despite all of this, I would still return if I’m in the area again.
