The Fish Keg - Chicago
The Fish Keg
Description
A recent visit to The Fish Keg left a disappointed customer feeling that the seafood was of poor quality and not worth the price. The fried fish was decent, but the fries were dry and the sides were lackluster. Another reviewer was dissatisfied with the portion sizes and overall experience. Some found the fried fish to be mediocre and overpriced, while others enjoyed the perfectly prepared seafood and nostalgic atmosphere, appreciating the option to take food home to cook. Despite mixed reviews, The Fish Keg continues to be a classic spot for seafood lovers, offering tasty options but varying experiences for different diners.

Used to come here in my 20s, 30s, 40s 50s. Tried it in my 60s and it was not the quality nor variety of my past experiences. No more scallops on the menu. Shrimp quality was good but the batter coating was overcooked and lacked flavor. Pricey fir the quantity Premises needs reorganization and a refresh. Service was fast and courteous so I will try again because I remember what it once was.
Had a taste for some fried scallops and thought about this place. Haven't been in while so I thought I would check out the menu. I didnt see scallops on menu and decided to call. found out they stopped serving scallops months ago. Really?! So disappointing
We knew they were nearby and I had to look at the picture I took to see what the times were. And they have changed again for Saturdays and moved up to 7 PM. So, we headed over. Try something different for dinner. My sister said what are you interested in trying out. I thought of shrimp but was curious about their Cat Fish so I had the Catfish Nuggets and she bought Hush Puppy. My older sister got the Lake Perch and Shrimp. We split the Hush Puppies into 7 balls each. She also had their single-size Cole Slaw, Tartar, and Cocktail Sauce. Well, I liked the Catfish Nuggets they were sweet-tasting fish cooked perfectly. I did not like the Hush Puppy. I did not want anything else. My sister liked the Lake Perch but 4 pieces were not enough. And said it tasted bland. I tried one piece that tasted like another fish I had before. She thought it did not have enough spices on the Shrimp but also not enough pieces and liked their Cole Slaw. In my opinion, It 's the price per pound and quantity that can be pricey when buying seafood. She said she missed the Rocky 's Seafood Shack and was hoping that the Fish Keg would be like them. The clerk asked her if she wanted plain shrimp or hot shrimp. She asked for the plain. If you are trying something new for the first time you stick with the plain 1st. Then come back for more then try their hot version. It was different.
