Stax Cafe - Chicago
Stax Cafe
Description
Located near the University of Illinois Medical Center, Stax offers a diverse menu that ranges from hearty omelets to inventive French toast. While many reviewers praised the abundant portions and delicious flavors, such as the honey ricotta French toast and omelets, the experience occasionally suffered from inconsistent service and food temperatures. Patrons enjoyed the inviting atmosphere, conducive to people-watching, yet some found the seating uncomfortable. Despite minor complaints, the diner remains a popular choice for breakfast and lunch, particularly for those seeking a vibrant, bustling brunch spot in Little Italy.

Stax Cafe is a great spot for breakfast or brunch! The menu offers all the classics along with fresh juices and smoothies, which is a nice touch. The food is tasty, portions are generous, and everything feels fresh and well-prepared. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it perfect for a relaxed meal. Service was friendly, though it can get a bit busy during peak hours, so expect a little wait. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Overall, a solid choice for a delicious breakfast in Chicago! I was lowkey disappointed with the food, but not the service. The bacon was very undercooked and soft—you could clearly see a lot of pink in it—and the potatoes were soggy instead of crispy. For the prices they charge, the food quality just didn’t match. Definitely overpriced for what you get. Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: $10–20
We were told this is the place to have breakfast in Little Italy. However the fame has gone to its head. The service was peremptory with no attempt to make human contact. My eggs were cold and undercooked though my friend’s omelet was good hence the rating is ‘average’ rather than lower. The table next to us was also less than impressed. It is a pity when a good place gets well known and forgets that its reason for existing is the customer.
Everything was very nice the people worked there were friendly and the owner is a very good guy .The food delicious mm yummy
Food was fantastic. The honey ricotta French toast is a very unique flavor. Glad I got it, but the mint adds a different twist. The omelets were well portioned and excellent in flavor (Denver and Harlem) with the potatoes and vegetables. The reason for the 4 out of 5, was it was really hot inside for a place that should be air conditioned.
