The location on Google Maps is incorrect; the restaurant is called Smilin Jim's and it's located on Western Ave. It's a neighborhood bar where friends and anyone else can come together and enjoy some jamming. It's just plain fun, and they also have a pool table available.
The food here feels truly authentic, so it's best to come with an open mind. We tried the goat, beef, and fish alongside the jollof rice, which was delicious. My child especially enjoyed the mashed cassava bread, which has a texture similar to mashed potatoes, paired with the spicy spinach. The moi moi bean cake was unlike anything I've tasted before—definitely unique. They serve bottled water, so if you can, bring a reusable water bottle.
Delicious food, but the prices are a bit off. The hours are even more confusing.
I would recommend the Jollof rice, beef and Spinach or Plantains. Everyone was friendly, Attentive, and fast service. Can’t wait to go back again.
I wish I did a dine-in instead of take out from this restaurant. It was so refreshing to walk into an African restaurant and receive good, professional treatment. I loved how patient and helpful the server was with us. I ordered amala and ewedu and the price was worth it for the size of the food. Overall I will definitely visit this place again when I'm in Chicago. Would 8/10 recommend.
Simi's, a hidden gem offering authentic Nigerian cuisine, impresses diners with its freshly made dishes like pounded yam and jollof rice. Guests rave about unique offerings such as goat, beef, fish, and moi moi bean cakes, while the mashed cassava bread paired with spicy spinach proves to be a crowd favorite. The warm, friendly service enhances the experience, encouraging patrons to return despite limited vegetarian options. Visitors note a slight inconvenience with the Google Maps location and evening-only hours, but the welcoming atmosphere and quality food ensure Simi's remains a beloved destination for African cuisine lovers.

Nigerian cuisine is always fascinating, and the food at Simi's felt particularly authentic. I was especially impressed that the pounded yam was made from scratch. Overall, it was an excellent meal.
