I've been visiting this place since 1979, and for the longest time, I could only enjoy a can of soda and some potato chips until I turned 21 in 1984.

It was... read more The atmosphere felt extremely unwelcoming, almost dangerous. I don’t want to bring race into it, but it felt like they singled me out for being Hispanic. It was as if my presence was offensive, and I couldn't understand why I was being denied service or who they thought I was. I was hoping for a nearby spot with classic rock music and beer, but instead, I was met with unfriendly glances from other patrons and an unhelpful server. It felt like some kind of exclusive club; patrons acted almost like security, asking intrusive questions about who I was and where I worked. It gave me the distinct impression that there was a gang-related vibe among the clientele. I’ve never felt scared in a bar before, but this was a first for me. I can't speak for other reviews, but I later found another bar just down the block to the east that offered much better service and a healthier environment. Please avoid Shotay's. I don't consider myself a minority in this neighborhood, so I can only imagine how someone who is Black or LGBTQ+ might be treated there. I genuinely felt endangered as a potential customer, and no apology would ever persuade me to return, given the hostility I encountered from the bartender that night.

I was greeted at the door and the environment was very lively and friendly! This place is a MUST and I will be back!
