Shaman By Chilam Balam - Chicago

This was our fourth or fifth visit to Shaman, and it just keeps getting better. The food is modern, fine Mexican cuisine, and the service is extremely attentive. We highly recommend it, and it’s a must-try!

This was my first visit to Shaman, although I've been to its Lakeview location several times. We had a larger group, and we appreciated that the server recommended serving the meal family style. Every dish was delicious, and the desserts were outstanding as well. The flavors were consistent with what I’ve experienced at the Lakeview location, and I can definitely see us returning here in the future for the comfort it offers. This place also had more private dining areas than the original, which was lovely.

Everything we ordered was terrible, but the service was outstanding. I highly recommend it!

The food was pretty good if you evaluated each dish in a vacuum. But for the overall meal, there wasn't much range. Every dish seemed to have the same sauces on them: their guajillo salsa and their avocado sauce. It seemed like everything we ordered from quesadillas, to empanadas, to enchiladas all had the same sauce and the same flavors. We were looking for something a little different. The value was not that great for what it was, but we appreciated the BYOB factor. Our bill seemed pretty high for just some small sharing plates that didnt have much range.

We love Chilam Balam and Shaman is just as good. The rotating menu helps keep things fresh every time you visit.
