Reviews summary
Rivers Restaurant offers a beautiful dining experience by the river, making it a perfect spot for a pre or post-opera meal. With a wide selection of dishes, excellent food, and top-notch service, it's a go-to destination for many. However, some diners have noted mixed experiences, with complaints about seating arrangements, rude staff, and overpriced drinks during happy hour. On the positive side, the restaurant has also received glowing reviews from customers who have hosted events there, praising the responsive and professional team for their exceptional service. Overall, the revamped menu and quality of food are highlights, though some improvements may be needed in the service department. Along with a lively outdoor ambiance and delicious offerings like guacamole and tacos, Rivers Restaurant remains a solid choice for a meal in the city.

This is an outstanding high-end American gourmet restaurant. The atmosphere, food, and service are all exceptional. I enjoyed the calamari, seared tuna, and sorbet. Plus, parking is free for two hours with validation, making it very convenient if you're driving downtown. View all feedback.
What Alaina Hammes dislikes about Rivers:
We had a very nice dinner at Rivers prior to the opera. Good service, good food, a bit pricey for the portions but otherwise a good choice for pre- or post-theater/opera/etc. View all feedback.

The roasted turkey with avocado is a must-try dish at this restaurant. The tender turkey is perfectly seasoned and pairs wonderfully with the creamy avocado. It's a delicious and satisfying option for a meal.
The restaurant's food is quite ordinary, lacking flavor and overpriced for the quality.
Travis and Billie were very rude when they were dealing with my friends. As someone working in the service industry, I always prioritize my clients when carrying out my daily tasks. Wishing you happy holidays, Travis and Billie.
I had a pleasant business lunch at Rivers. The crab cake was packed with chunks of white crab meat and was seasoned perfectly. They accommodated my request for a wrap instead of a sandwich, which was a nice touch.
We hosted a small rehearsal dinner followed by a large welcome party on the river for over 200 guests from 20 different states. The location is perfect for both out-of-towners and locals, offering stunning views of the river and city buildings. The restaurant boasts the largest covered outdoor patio in the city, which provided a perfect setting for our event. Every aspect of the evening, from the dinner to the appetizers and cocktails, was excellent. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, from our initial contact to the bartenders. They were accommodating and truly dedicated to ensuring a memorable experience for our guests, and they certainly delivered. We are grateful for everything your team did for us. Thank you, Rivers!

The Rivers is always a nice place to have dinner before or after the opera. They have a wonderful selection of dishes and the food and service are always excellent.
We frequently visit this restaurant before attending the opera. They have always been very accommodating and the food has consistently been great. However, the menu seems to stay the same. We hope to see some new options next time we dine there.

This review is in regards to the excellent customer service I received from Elaine Simcox, the venue Coordinator.

I took a potential customer out for lunch here, and she informed the staff at the table about her gluten allergy (Celiac disease). Unfortunately, the menu turned out to be outdated and written in pencil...
They offer a great selection of local beers on tap from Chicago and the surrounding areas, which I really enjoy. The terrace overlooking the Chicago River is even more...

I’ve attended Rivers Restaurant numerous times for sorority events but this visit was for a ‘Thank You’ dinner on Aug 23rd. I’ve had their finger foods/appetizers but this was the first time I had dinner. It was a wonderful experience. I started with the Cucumber Basil Lemonade (TRY IT)...very cool, refreshing drink. We ordered a variety of appetizers so I can recommend the crab cakes, calamari, the guacamole tower and THE SHRIMP BRUSCHETTA! All excellent choices. My main entree was the Shrimp Risotto. Very good. I had a taste of the Chilean Sea Bass (a true winner)! My dessert was the Sweet Potato Bread Pudding. Another winner! All in all, great conversation, great food!
