Mezza Mediterranean Grill

Mezza Mediterranean Grill
3.4 / 5 (188 reviews)

Description

Mezza serves generous, flavorful Mediterranean plates at attractive prices, making it a solid weekday lunch pick for nearby office workers. Large portions and bold flavors shine, but inconsistent execution—salty sauces, dry pita and occasional hummus shortages—plus a reported cleanliness issue and erratic, short hours temper enthusiasm. It gets very busy at lunchtime, so ordering ahead is advised. With steadier hours and tighter quality control, it could be a reliable neighborhood staple.

The staff was friendly and got me through the line swiftly. The falafel bowl was absolutely delicious!

The hummus was terrible—honestly, it was that bad. I couldn't even finish it, and I usually never waste food. The falafel was somewhat better than the hummus, but that’s not saying much. If you’re in the neighborhood and looking for good Mediterranean cuisine, I highly recommend you go a few blocks south to Taza on Franklin Street. I definitely won't be making the mistake of coming to Mezza again.

For the price, you certainly get a generous amount of food, but I did encounter a few issues. Firstly, I was surprised that they ran out of hummus by 1 PM, especially since lunchtime can be quite busy. Additionally, the pita was very difficult to eat, so I had to resort to using a fork and knife. While that helped a bit, I expect to be able to hold my pita easily. Lastly, the feta or sauce was overly salty, which made the dish hard to enjoy. Overall, it wasn’t terrible, but there are definitely some areas for improvement.

During lunch, my husband discovered a live cockroach in his bowl at this restaurant. This is a serious health issue and we will be reporting it to the Cook County Health Department.

The pizza easily falls apart, but it tastes good and comes in decent portions.
