La Sardine - Chicago
La Sardine
Description
La Sardine, a French cuisine restaurant, received mixed reviews from customers. While some enjoyed the authentic French food, lively atmosphere, and delicious dishes like French onion soup, bouillabaisse, and soufflé, others were disappointed with slow service, crowded seating, and mediocre food. Despite the ups and downs, the restaurant remains a popular spot for special occasions and features a prix fixe menu that offers a good deal, with offerings like seafood soup, salmon with quinoa, and chocolate soufflé. The general consensus is that while there may be some room for improvement, the overall experience at La Sardine is worth returning for.

The service was excellent and personalized. The food was amazing, especially the bouillabaisse and halibut collars. The staff gave great recommendations on wines.
The food, bartender, and wait staff were amazing! The only issue was that our reservation was not honored. We were seated 40 minutes after our 8:00 reservation time. Despite receiving plenty of apologies and a complimentary appetizer due to our hunger, waiting 40 minutes was not acceptable.
This is a fantastic traditional bistro. It can get a bit noisy but overall not too bad. The food was excellent. The French onion soup is a must-try. The Dover sole was elegantly prepared and delicious. I especially enjoyed the endive salad. While I wasn't a big fan of the coquilles St. Jacques as it wasn't prepared traditionally, the scallops were cooked perfectly. I would definitely come back again.
Second time for me but brought three first timer friends along! Food was fabulous our waitress (French “Desh”? was Awesome! We were seated a few feet away from the door, which led to feeling the chill every time the door opened. I made the reservations on Feb. 16, yet we got the worst seating for a 6pm reservation. Oh well, the company, the food/drinks, and the waitress, led me to not complain that night.
We have been to La Sardine several times, have always enjoyed it, in all ways. Which is why we chose to spend Valentine 's day there. Disappointing. They added tables so it was super crowded, and noisier than usual. The service was slow, scallops were good but overly expensive (3 for over $30). One of the signature delights of La Sardine are their soufflé 's. This night the soufflé was too crusty, almost burnt, and very dry. Neither of us could eat very much of it. Seemed like it had been done too early then had to be 'rebaked ' We will go back one day, but, it will definitely be a while. (The salad Lyonaisse was great)
