Description

Centrally located in downtown Chicago, this hotel restaurant is a local favorite known for carefully balanced, top-quality dishes—burgers, fish-and-chips, shrimp pasta—and a standout bartender who creates a welcoming bar scene. Guests praise the breakfast buffet with made-to-order omelets, pool, and comfortable rooms. However, inconsistent service and front-desk billing/check-in issues have caused frustration, and some evening staff interactions left families feeling unwelcome. Great for visitors, locals, and couples who enjoy a lively, well-crafted meal; families should be cautious.

Got in later on a Friday night and planned on eating at the hotel restaurant. It did not disappoint! We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and all of the staff were hustling as it was busy but they were very attentive. My husband saw others ordering the burger and decided to try it. He was very pleased with the burger and fries. I tried the fish and chips and was happy with my order. It had the perfect amount of breading (I was worried they'd be over breaded) and the garlic aioli was delicious served with it. My husband enjoyed a non alcoholic IPA and although I didn't order one tonight we were happy to see a zero proof section on their drink menu. I will be back tomorrow for a drink and likely dessert!

Very laid-back atmosphere with an upscale look and feel. The bartender was holding down both the bar and table service. I was impressed from the moment we entered the hotel and could see the restaurant from the front doors. The menu is simple yet flavorful and filling. I ate the BBQ pulled pork quesadilla and my daughter had the French onion soup, and we shared a sushi roll. This was the perfect lunch we didn't know we wanted. 10 out of 10 Must try!!!

HothouseI eat at Hothouse whenever I come into town. Their food is (no exaggeration. top-notch. Everything‘s done to taste delicious. The food is not overpowered, which is very much appreciated. The flavors are very balanced. And I have to mention the drinks are also delicious. I have eaten the burgers which are cooked just right and to order. I’ve had the fish and chips which was also perfect and the salmon and Buffalo wings which were simply excellent. Thank you very much to the chef Jasper, as well as the excellent bartender Jose A, the waitstaff of Eric Jose G. Your service is attentive and sincere. I can’t help but notice you were constantly moving and doing your best to provide a great service experience.

On our first night, my sister and I took advantage of the hotel’s breakfast package. We clearly informed the staff at the breakfast bar that we were part of the package deal. Yet, after finishing our meal, we were charged the full $75, even though we had already paid for our meals in advance. While I didn't mind leaving a tip, I was frustrated to see my card charged again. Just because we're teenagers doesn't mean we should be disregarded or taken advantage of like this. The following day, I visited the restaurant with my family, including my parents. We requested coffee only for my mom, dad, and me. Instead, to my surprise, the server took my cup away. I asked for it back five times, saying, “Could I please have my cup back because I want coffee?” He ignored me and walked away. My sister tried to intervene, but he continued to leave. I ended up in tears, feeling as though I was being treated as less than a person. I want to emphasize that this isn’t about the restaurant’s overall value, but rather about my disappointing experience.

This isn’t just any hotel bar; it has a loyal local following. The food is thoughtfully crafted and made fresh. The bartender, Jose, has been around for many years and excels at his craft. He has a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like a regular.
