Description

**Dining Experience at Giant: A Mixed Bag**

Giant promises a delightful culinary adventure but delivers a mixed experience. While some patrons rave about standout dishes like the jalapeño biscuits, Japanese eggplant, and fresh seafood, others lament overcooked and bland offerings. The restaurant’s close seating arrangement has left diners cramped and distracted, with service described as average at best. Prices are steep, prompting expectations for exceptional quality, yet not everyone leaves satisfied. Despite its shortcomings, many express enthusiasm for a return visit, drawn by the creative menu and engaging chef interactions. Giant remains a polarizing destination worthy of exploration.

Went to try Giant for restaurant week and it did not disappoint! We arrived just before 6pm and so qualified for the half off bottle of wine deal which was fun. We decided to order the restaurant week menu as well as man menu items. Standouts were the crab salad (just fresh with incredible crab flavor , eggplant with pita (just WOW, I’m not really an eggplant person but it was cooked in such a fabulous way I couldn’t get enough! , sortalini pasta (to die for…. Seriously fantastic I should’ve ordered twenty of them , and the roast pork (melty and fatty, no notes . We also really enjoyed the vegetable dumplings, shrimp, beef cheek, and sourdough bread! For dessert the soy sauce ice cream was so fun and interesting, and apple tart was perfectly crunchy and sweet (but not too sweet . Great place to go with friends or a date! Only docked one star for atmosphere because the tables were packed so closely together it was really difficult to get out from the booth haha would have loved a little more room to get out comfortably. Showed up on time for our reservation and still had to wait for 20+ minutes, no apology or anything. The food is simply just not worth the hype. We ordered the bread and it came out with our last dish. They sit you shoulder to shoulder with other guests, so much so, they had to move our table in order to squeeze us it. My girlfriend had to use the bathroom during our meal and we had to interrupt other people’s dinners just so she could squeeze by. Service was poor and awkward, we ordered a bottle of wine and the server over poured my girlfriend after she said no when asked if she wanted more wine. Just left us feeling down at the end of the night. I wont be back. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1 Price per person: $100+

Wow... What a huge disappointment this place was. They have the audacity to squeeze people into such close proximity to each other , nevermind I thought to myself, maybe the food is great . Another huge disappointment, the main event we were looking forward to, the food. Omg, if you 're trying to plate and wannabe fine dining portions for the prices, you better believe that it better taste mind blowing, it was not even average on average restaurant standards. Over salty, not fresh, bad flavours and just bad. People who say this place is good need to adjust their taste buds or they must be still suffering from covid taste loss. Bad, disgusting and so disappointing.

Not worth the price. Staff is pretty unprofessional for what you pay as is the atmosphere. Flank steak was tough. Seafood was cold.

I recently had my favorite dining experience in Chicago in quite some time! I highly recommend sitting at the chef’s table, where the chefs were incredibly friendly and took the time to interact with us despite their busy evening. The biscuit, mafaldine pasta, flank steak, and carrots were absolute highlights of the meal. I also enjoyed trying the unique dish of Japanese eggplant. However, I didn’t particularly care for the tagliatelle. The cocktails were outstanding! I can’t wait to return and sample more of the menu.
