This vibrant eatery captivates visitors with its array of fully vegan empanadas, boasting colorful and innovative fillings made from whole foods. While some guests found the crusts too dry or burnt, many celebrated the savory flavors, especially the spicy tinga and sweet potato chili varieties. The friendly staff and cozy atmosphere make it an inviting spot, perfect for takeout. Prices are deemed fair, with discounts on larger orders. Although beverage offerings may not impress, the standout garlic sauce complements the empanadas beautifully. For those in search of delicious plant-based snacks, this spot promises a fulfilling culinary adventure.
I had been eyeing the menu at this restaurant for months and kept seeing these adorable empanadas everywhere, so when I found myself downtown, I decided to stop by. The staff was very friendly and helped me choose flavors to try. The store is small, with a few seats along the wall, but it is more suited for take-out. However, I decided to eat at one of the seats since I was hungry. I ordered the tinga, sweet potato chili, andean, and smoky mushroom empanadas. The colors of the empanadas were vibrant, especially the sweet potato chili with activated charcoal in the dough. It was nice to know that they were made with veggies. The empanadas were very hot when fresh, so be careful not to burn your mouth like I did! The sweet potato chili was my favorite, with a nice kick to it. The garlic sauce was fantastic and helped cool down the heat. I think they gave me a margherita empanada instead of the andean, but it was still good. Overall, I enjoyed the empanadas and was glad I finally tried them. It's definitely worth a visit if you're downtown and looking for something delicious to eat!
This restaurant is a gem - the dishes are delicious and it's clear that a lot of care went into preparing them.
As is common with many restaurants in this area of Chicago, seating is limited and prices are on the higher side. However, the food is worth the cost. The empanadas are surprisingly filling and all vegan. Most of the drink choices are also vegan or can easily be made vegan (I recommend the green smoothie without honey). I have dined at the small bar area multiple times without any issues. My favorite flavors include Andean, Tinga, Ropa Vieja, and Smoky Mushroom. The Margherita empanada is reminiscent of a pizza pocket and pairs well with the garlic dip. Sweet empanada options are available too. The restaurant is conveniently located near the train line.
