Delmonico - Chicago
Delmonico
Description
Tucked away near City Hall, Delmonico Restaurant offers an affordable buffet-style lunch and breakfast options, appealing primarily to local office workers. The atmosphere resembles a cafeteria, and while some diners appreciate the low prices and variety, others express concerns about food quality and service inefficiencies. Reports of stale salad items and lukewarm entrees tarnish its reputation, especially given the inconsistent order handling by newer staff. Yet, many patrons laud the kitchen’s culinary expertise, with commendable dishes and friendly service. Despite its flaws, Delmonico remains a popular choice, especially for convenient, budget-friendly meals during busy workdays.

So does this place even consider how they need to check on the quality of the food they serve? I tried this out for the first time today. Salad was almost gone. Minimal amount of add ons. I got a small egg roll and 2 chicken wings . Got to y office and saw that the wings had been reheated several times over but were in fact cold and hard. The meat inside was a dark color so I’ll be nice and say they were from yesterday. The egg roll? Cold. Definitely several hours cold. The olives in the salad bar were definitely ready for the trash and while we are at it, throw away the tomatoes that have already lived well past their prime.Don’t do it.
Buffet in the Loop offers a wide variety of options. You can create your own salad, or you can place an order for freshly prepared dishes.
The atmosphere isn’t very inviting; it feels more like a cafeteria, but that's not necessarily an issue. The real problem lies with the new cashier, who is rude and seems quite uninformed. She refuses to allow substitutions that were previously accepted, claiming, "we’ve never allowed that," even though she just joined the team. Additionally, she struggles to process orders quickly or handle multiple tasks at once. Simple details often get overlooked, like the change you should receive or the type of cheese you requested, and she even mixed up my egg order, forgetting I asked for scrambled instead of over easy, despite being right in front of her.
The restaurant offers a hot buffet, cold salad and grilling options, soups, and desserts. There’s a good selection for lunch, and the food is consistently well-prepared. You can choose to dine in or take your meal to go. Keep in mind that the food is priced by weight, so it can add up quickly.
