Cafe L'appetito - Chicago
Cafe L'appetito
Description
Nestled conveniently near regional attractions, this restaurant showcases delightful baked goods and delicious, freshly made dishes like paninis and croissant sandwiches. The coffee is also a highlight, with options such as iced caramel lattes and mocha frappuccinos that earn compliments. However, experiences vary greatly; concerns about hygiene practices in the bakery section and rude service at the checkout tarnish its reputation. While many enjoy the quality and flavor, others express disappointment with cleanliness and staff demeanor. Overall, it’s a venue with potential that could benefit from improved customer service and adherence to hygiene standards.

5 stars for quality, 1 star for cleanliness with the ladies who work on the bakery/coffee side of things. This is the second time that I have come to order cookies and the woman wears the same gloves to check out customers and touch the computer as she goes to grab cookies. Maybe a pair of tongs would be helpful?
I regret to say that I probably won't be returning to this restaurant. While I was ordering from the bakery section, I noticed that the woman behind the counter wasn't wearing gloves or using tongs when handling the cookies. When I brought it up, she reluctantly grabbed a pair of tongs and claimed that they always use them, but I hadn't seen her do so earlier. Her defensive attitude and retreat to the back didn't inspire confidence in me. I don't mean to be difficult, but seeing someone handle expensive cookies without gloves or proper utensils raises concerns about cleanliness. It's frustrating to have to throw away something I paid for because I'm not comfortable eating it.
