Always Thai - Chicago
Always Thai
Description
Always Thai is a delightful hole-in-the-wall restaurant that offers a diverse selection of affordable and flavorful dishes. With standout options like curry fried rice, tofu satay, and various noodle dishes, there's something for everyone, including vegan diners. While the atmosphere might feel uninviting at times and service can be hit-or-miss, many patrons appreciate the timely takeout and friendly staff. However, some essential features—like bubble tea—are missing, and menu items may have adjusted due to recent challenges. Regardless, food lovers are encouraged to support this local gem when cravings for delicious Thai cuisine arise.

It seems like the restaurant is closed. I went by on a Tuesday at 5:30 PM, and the posted hours on the door and website both said they were supposed to be open until 9 PM. There was no sign indicating they were closed for vacation or any other reason. I tried calling twice but got no answer, and the door was locked. The interior looked like they were in the process of dismantling it. I'm disappointed to see Always Thai go. However, I must say the curry fried rice was amazing!
Perhaps the restaurant has new ownership? The menu is small and doesn't offer bubble tea despite what's advertised. They only accept certain forms of payment, not including cash or Amex, without notifying customers beforehand. The portions are small and the atmosphere is cold and uninviting. The food was okay, I might consider getting it for takeout if I happened to be passing by, but I wouldn't dine in and there are more appealing delivery options in the area.
The food at this restaurant was stunning and tasty. It was served in a peaceful setting with a very friendly host.
The best crab rangoon i have had in Chicago so far. IT's very accessible next to the brown line. The lunch special is very affordable and comes with more food than you will be able to eat in one sitting. i will continue to frequent here.
