Suburbs Eaterie - Chester
Suburbs Eaterie
Description
Tucked in Hoole, this relaxed restaurant offers a strong wine list, standout oysters, inventive seasonal menus and good vegetarian choices. Service ranges from attentive and knowledgeable to intermittently distracted, with occasional upselling. Desserts and festive dishes win praise, but mains can be uneven—underseasoned or poorly timed—and a Sunday roast was served cold and skimpy. Value and cider variety could improve, and there's no mobile card machine. Still worth a visit for atmosphere, knowledgeable staff and excellent starters, though expect occasional inconsistency.

Came here early on a Friday night for a meal for 2. The Christmas menu had just came into effect and was superb, we both had the portabello mushroom to start, the slow braised beef with winter veg for mains and I also managed to fit in the warm chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert. The service was impeccable and Callum who I think is either the supervisor or manager had an immediate knowledge of kitchen stock when we asked for oysters (we ended up getting 10 of the remaining 12! The other male server was very friendly, attentive but not to the point of annoyance and made sure we had everything we needed and even anticipated that we might want extra plates and cutlery when sharing the dessert. The only improvements I can think of would be to ensure cutlery arrives before or concurrently with the food. I waited for a couple of minutes salivating in front of my brownie before the spoons arrived. However this didn’t detract from the whole experience. Also, a mobile card machine would be more convenient.
Food was absolutely amazing, with a great variety of vegetarian options for my girlfriend. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that we had a sense of being forgotten, as the waitress didn't come to our table for roughly an hour as we were hoping to leave. Other than that the place was excellent.
Absolutely delicious can't recommend the food highly enough. The Tuesday night deal (3 dishes and a drink for £15) is great value for money.
