A great old house with lots of character. Excellent dining rooms, one of which has fine wood panelling and a balcony. Food was of high quality exhibiting innovation and good balance of ingredients well cooked. Wine list was fairly short but with good variety and fairly priced. The restaurant is part of a hotel that has excellent facilities and a beautiful garden. View all feedback.
What Theo Morris doesn't like about The Manor Country House Hotel:
Terrible food, massive let down after having had a look at the fancy website. Mushroom soup was a thick purée that had an after taste of rubber, rabbit terrine was meaty but someone forgot to add any seasoning whatsoever. Main courses were a slight improvement but not by much. Even though this was a 3 course menu we didn't feel brave enough to give the puddings a try... can't remember last time I refused a free desse... View all feedback.
Upon our arrival, we were informed that the restaurant was not aware of our reservation and no longer worked with OpenTable, despite receiving a reminder from them two days prior. This miscommunication between the hotel and OpenTable led me to close my account with the booking platform, as they should ensure the hotel is kept informed of bookings. The greeting was lacking, and we were asked to wait in the bar, incurring additional costs. It was surprising to see customers dining while keeping their shoes on, which was not something I had experienced in a hotel before. The afternoon tea was disappointing, with poor service and subpar food. The Scones were particularly bad, and there was not enough jam and cream for all of us. They never offered us more tea and presented the bill without asking. The bill was £85, significantly higher than a recent afternoon tea we had at Hotel Broadway, which was much better and cost only £14.50 per person. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant, and we were essentially alone after the other customers left. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel or OpenTable based on this experience. It is a shame, as I had stayed at this hotel 30 years ago under different management and had a wonderful experience. The hotel offered us a free tea in the future, but I am unsure if I would return.
The occasion was my wife's birthday and I had a table for 6 for afternoon tea. Unfortunately, in the morning it was beaten that 2 of the guests could not come due to illness, but the hotel dealt with the change easily and without excitement. The hotel has a very imposing look with a tree-bound drive (fully illuminated to dark). The interior had a corresponding manorial warehouse and we were shown in one of the dining rooms to a table that was placed for 4 through a window from which we could see some of the well-maintained properties. It was Valentine's Day, and we noticed that the adjacent room and its tables were decorated for romantic dinners. We were not surprised that there were some other diners present as it was a weekday afternoon, and we enjoyed the cozy intimate atmosphere. The food was carefully presented, good in quality and quantity, and there was a selection of teas. Two of our companies have opted for a bottle of champagne for a small surcharge. As we had mentioned, it was a birthday, the waitress brought a little 'Happy Birthday' plaque with some edible goodies on it. The staff was friendly and friendly, and I would not have any concerns to recommend this place, and would be happy to go back there.
The restaurant is located in a charming house, and the festive decorations including garlands and a large Christmas tree in the reception area create a delightful atmosphere.
The food at this restaurant was of good quality and the ambience was beautiful, but the portions were small and the prices were high for what we received. Our bill came to nearly £200 for four people, and we didn't even have a bottle of wine. We found better value in the bar food.
This was for our wedding anniversary and we had heard good things about the Manor since it's change of ownership. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and asked if we would like a drink first which we did. The bar is pleasant with a good selection of drinks, however, they had run out of the first 2 drinks that we requested, not a great start but can happen. We then were shown through to dinner which was in the morning room which was a disappointment as we had asked for the Barons Hall. The room was cold in both temperature and atmosphere. The menu was limited but that is not a bad thing and it looked interesting. We both ordered the scallops to start and then the pheasant for main. The starter was amazing and a new take on a starter we love. The real issue was the main, I feared there would be no carbs so had ordered some as a side, the chips were excellent buy the way. The pheasant was cooked perfectly and tasted lovely, the issue was with the what came with the meat. It was to little, didn't go taste wise with the meat and there was no real vegetables. When we raised this it was ignored. We ordered a baileys coffee for afterwards and this took forever to come and then was cold. For a normal evening meal at over £137 this would have been poor value for our wedding anniversary it was just very disappointing.
