What Audrey Guillot doesn't like about Victor Street Smorgasbord:
Food was cold quite concerning considering it’s chicken. The Szechuan chicken flavour was very yummy though. Fried pork was hard like a brick. The food and drink set menu is a rip. Cheaper buying just food. View all feedback.
Cheap and cheerful Aussie style Chinese classics from a bain marie is as old school as it gets. Add to this, food served by an equally humble Chinese lady who is always smiling and polite reflects all wisdom of Chinese take away owners of yesteryear where honest food is served at honest prices. This unpretentious simple take away shop is proof that you do not need any trendy fancy concepts to be successful and the value is what keeps regulars flocking back. The value is unbeatable with prices starting at one dish and rice or noodles for $4.50, two for $6.50 and so on. The selection is pretty much the same daily so as not to upset the regulars but there are specials rotated into the mix. There are also spring rolls, curry puff and prawn crackers on offer too. What is good about this place is that unlike shopping centre foodcourt food in bain maries, the dishes here are cooked in different size batches depending on the time of day so that food is kept fresh and you will not find dishes dried up and been sitting in trays for hours. The sauces for the honey chicken and sweet and sour pork are kept seperate to keep the batter crunchy and omly spooned on when ordered. It's the simple things like this that show the owner cares and why the food is kept consistent and why business is always so consistent. Definitely worth trying whether you are after a cheap business lunch or a substantial meal.
