What Lela Lemke doesn't like about Petaling Street:
Dinner on a Monday night. The whole district area was pretty quiet. Chose Petaling mainly because it was the first place when you walk in. I had the claypot short rice noodle. It came with mince pork. Doesn't look pretty but I enjoyed it. Nice soy flavour. A little on oily side. Would have liked some greens through it. Decent amount for $12.90. My friend had noodles with chicken. She was not impressed with her meal.... View all feedback.
The food is quick but that's about it. The beef Rendang was fatty and chewy, although the sauce had texture and some flavor. It's cheap and quick so I'm not sure I should have expected more but I was so hungry I had to go elsewhere for cake
I unfortunately had to wolf down a rather mediocre bowl of laksa as I hadn't had a proper meal all day and was absolutely starving! Even in my very hungry state, I did not find the food as delicious as I should have. They were quite generous with the veggies and noodles, but the soup lacked flavour and was quite watered down. The food came out quickly but then again they had four people working and two lots of customers.
Food: We're 1 for 3 here at Petaling. When we tried the Fried Kuey Teow, we thought that this place was great, and would definitely come back—from that dish alone, I’d rate this place a solid 14/20. However, upon our return, we sampled the Singapore Chilli sauce style Lala (which are pippies, aka small clams) and the Nasi Pattaya (fried rice wrapped in a thin omelette.) Both were rubbish. The Lala were definitely not fresh; the sauce couldn’t mask the smell of the stale seafood. The Nasi Pattaya offered only two measly prawns, a mountain of rice that was dry, as dry as a desert. 9/20 Service: The staff have been friendly and, while one at least has no understanding of “sweet” vs “not very sweet” in relation to the Teh Tarik (Malaysian style milk tea, which was very sweet) there is nothing to complain about here. 12/20 Ambience: It’s in a food court, but it’s a pretty nice food court. It even has mood lighting on the tables. 12/20 Overall: I don’t know if I’m brave enough to keep trying new dishes only to be rewarded with an awful meal, or just stick with the Kuey Teow. 10/20
