Stopover in Chateauroux on July 14th, hot weather, heavy traffic... looking for a simple but good restaurant, we found this one. Most of the tables were booked early, so we deduced it should be a good choice... Menu on the board is simple, tartars, burgers and others... fresh and tasty, friendly and smiling staff (and they were having a tough day... Definitely a good place. View all feedback.
What Anne L doesn't like about Brasserie Des Halles Chateauroux:
Called in for a lunch midweek. It was very busy so we thought it would be a good choice. The staff were rushing around so we seated ourselves and waited to be given menus. It took some time. Eventually we got chance to order but were told that the menu du jour was all sold out. So just had the standard menu to order from. I was a bit disappointed with that. The food wasn't as I hoped either. My parents had ordered a... View all feedback.
Good for drinks and food on the terrace in the square Service is very good….someone knows how to run a busy place. We asked for mussels, which are on the menu twice, but “not on mondays” Terrine to start was very good as was Tuna steak. Seafood skewer was good but the gambas were way over cooked and when we complained the server was not interested. It’s a pity cos we ate here before and came back. Not again!

The food wasn't as I hoped either. My parents had ordered a burger well done. They were pretty red inside. I wanted a rare steak it was not very pink at all. So overall not the best lunch which was a shame as the building was very nice and the location perfect.
We had a pleasant dinner on the town square here in August travelling south. Very good location in the old town and on the main square near hotels and parking. Good mix of locals and travellers and tables were all busy.....they have a cafe next door for drinks snacks. Good menu...not much non meat choice.....but we were served quickly and food was fine. They seemed to be selling a lot of burgers chips but my prawns were fine and the seafood cassoulet was good too!
