I wanted to try and the place was full! I was a little worried about the brotherhood of other girls over waiting times, but despite the madness my food was quickly ready. The girl behind the counter saw something overwhelmed and emphasizes how busy it was, but she was still warm and friendly. When I came back, the food was absolutely phenomenal and without error over 3 sandwiches a miracle in the current take food cl... View all feedback.

Let me tell you about the Take it Away Sandwich Shop in Charlottesville. My niece attends UVA and I decided to visit for a weekend. While she was out partying, I went for a walk and stumbled upon this little sandwich shop. The food was delicious and the employees were very nice. The decor was cute and vintage. I had a turkey sandwich with arugula and tomato that was heavenly. I highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Charlottesville. It was a great experience!
I wish I could give this restaurant a higher rating, as it has potential, but the service was lacking. We ordered sandwiches for our team and they took a long time to be served. Additionally, the amount of protein on each sandwich was not generous. The bread was tasty and seemed homemade, but overall it was not the best sandwich I have ever had.
I have a soft spot for Italian sandwiches, so whenever I travel, I always seek them out. Take it Away in Charlottesville came highly recommended by many people, so I knew I had to give it a try. This small, family-owned shop offers a variety of classic sandwich options as well as some daily specials. One particular special caught my eye - salami, fresh hot peppers, house dressing, provolone, all stacked on fresh sourdough bread. The combination of flavors was fantastic, with the salty salami and spicy peppers complementing each other perfectly. Don't forget to ask for an extra side of their house dressing, made with Mayo, mustard, and spices - it was so delicious, I wanted to drown my sandwich in it!
I decided to give this place another try. There aren 't many places yet that offer gluten free sandwiches, so I really really wanted it to work out. I asked for the very veggie in gluten free bread. I was told that wouldn 't work on gluten free bread cause it 's thin and hummus is thick. I said that 's OK! I also asked for no peppers, add cucumber. Well, yet again, I got peppers and no cucumber. Ugh. Won 't be going back.... just be aware, they don 't want to sell what they offer and they don 't go by what your receipt says...
Went to Charlottesville for the weekend because I used to live there and wanted to try some of my old favorite food places. I ordered ahead of time the night before because I wanted to pick it up in the morning. I ordered a smoked Turkey sandwich with extra roasted tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles and Asiago and edam cheese, with extra cheese for both kinds on my sandwich. I specifically ordered their house dressing on top of my sandwich as well as on the side and one side of mustard and one side of mayo. I also ordered two bags of specific flavors of chips the route crab chips and the route pickle chips. For the drink I ordered peace tea. I placed the order online using their own ordering system and thought it would make it easy to package up for me. Apparently not. I got there and checked the bag as I always do with to go orders and there were no sides at all in the bag, no chips, and no drink. I asked the cashier why there was no sides of sauce and she said that the house dressing was on there and they had run out of it the morning I was picking it up to get it packaged. I said ok, but it's on the sandwich right? She said it was. I also mentioned that there was no mayo side or mustard side in the bag. She thought I only had the house dressing which if she had just looked at the receipt on the side of the bag she would have known was not the case. How does one run out of their house dressing which should be always in plentiful supply? And how can they run out in the morning before they open? Regardless they should have made a new batch for the new day/week before opening, especially since there was an order with it on the sandwich. I would have waited for them to make the sauce, but the cashier was rude and aloof, and didn't seem to care at all about her job or my order. She placed one packet of mustard and one packet of mayo in my bag after I asked about the sides, and they were just the kinds you get at fast food places (in much bigger quantities and for free) not a true side. I was going to buy another couple items and when I asked about their house tuna salad and chicken salad that they make for sandwiches but also by themselves for purchase (which is what I was going to buy), she motioned toward the open refrigerated section and I looked and said they didn't have the tuna salad or the chicken salad, she said they only use them for sandwiches which she could have told me they changed their menu this way. I was about to leave after buying my husband a root beer and almost forgot that they didn't place my chips in the bag either and asked where they were. She told me I had to grab them myself but didn't remind me or say so as I was leaving....I know I forgot but they should have seen the order and made sure I left with everything that I purchased. Luckily I remembered before leaving. I come home to eat the sandwich and see that not only did they not put any house dressing on my sandwich at all (remember she had reassured me it was on there), but the cheese they used was dried out and old on the sides. The food wasn't super great like I remembered it but mostly due to the shitty customer service. The cashier was very rude and the person who makes the food was clearly lazy in not making new dressing, and assumed I would just not notice. I don't think I'll be coming back here anytime soon unless they really change their employees' attitudes towards customers and treating people with kindness and respect, or hire new staff who actually care about doing a decent job. You need to have good customer service period. Take it Away Sandwich Shop has definitely gone downhill in just the couple of years that I've left the city. I would recommend people steer clear of this place unless you want your day ruined, and to feel bad about yourself for just asking simple questions. Terrible service, ok food.
