I've stayed here twice this year. It's a nice updated hotel. You can't beat the location, lots of tourist locations in walking distance. Although it's nice and in a great location, the nightly rate is a bit on the higher end for what you're getting overall. View all feedback.
What Joni Loehrig Goldberg doesn't like about Mills House Charleston, Curio Collection By Hilton:
Underwhelmed. There may be a reason they don’t ask you about your stay when you checkout. Unpleasant check in, super small room, non existent water pressure in shower, and a large piece of machinery activated and jolted us out of bed — seriously sounded like a jet engine — before dawn. The Mills House Charleston is one of the nicest Hilton Brand hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms were luxurious: robes were hanging in the closet, amenities in the bathroom, a hair dryer, and even a clothes steams were provided in the room. The rooms are large and attractive. The lobby and sitting areas are beautiful. We loved our stay.
The hotel was beautiful. The rooms were nice, updated, and spacious. The staff was friendly. The coffee shop in the hotel was nice as well. The only downfall was no room service available and no shops for drinks/snacks.
The hotel has been recently renovated and it’s main areas are beautiful. The location is fantastic. I found some staff to be very nice and others to be a little snobby but that may just be bad manners. For the price point, I do think some things should be tightened up.1) google listing needs to be updated for the restaurant. From M-Thursday the restaurant closes at 9, not 10 as listed. Several arrived at 8:45. While staff accommodated, it was a very awkward position to place staff in.2) bathroom: used the shower for the first time and had hair floating around the tub. Additionally the tub wasn’t draining. The bathroom door also seems cheap and does not close.3) bar and restaurant closed on Friday night for a private event. This should be disclosed upon booking so the other people paying $400-$1000 a night can make different plans.4) the hydration stations are great but they don’t work with clear glasses unless you cover the back with your hand. Each time we walked up, there were 4-5 empty glasses just left around probably because people could not figure it out.5) lastly, I have worked in PR for quite a long time. I recommend someone take a look at responses to these less than positive reviews. For instance, the attention to detail related to business hours or special events closing the only food and beverage on site after 8 are important to people, as those amenities are why many may pick this hotel. Many of these concerns are very valid and leading with the positives even if you do address the negatives eventually is probably not the most effective. While we loved the location, we will probably stay somewhere else in the future that has all the little things more worked out. It is a lot to pay for something quite beautiful that does not fully satisfy customer’s needs.

It’s an okay hotel in a great location but most definitely does not rise to the marketed Hilton Curio Collection nor should be considered an Amex fine hotel.
