Great wine map, delicious food and very friendly and efficient staff! Thanks for a perfect first meal in Charleston! Very recommend the Goat Cheese Toast with Sauerkirschen, the Cavatelli Sausage/Pfeffer and the short rib and Polnta as well as Ravioli! Cab Franc with meal was raised! And my delicious drink that Josephine fits me because I don't prefer grapefruit! Rachel is a pleasure behind the bar! View all feedback.
Beautiful room, carefully decorated. Delicious food, detail oriented: ingredients / flavors. Nice wine map. The outdoor seating is beautiful. To my return list. Great happy hour. Well done!
Lovely setting. After being here a few times, it always seems a bit too loud, and too hot, even when it is not crowded. The wine selections are very good, and we will definitely be back for future visits as we live in the neighborhood.
I’ve been here twice now and its becoming a new favorite downtown. Excellent service, great bartenders, food was outstanding (literally every dish including dessert), great wine, and atmosphere is lively but not ridiculously loud. Also, because of the location, it’s not touristy...so if you’re a chic and well behaved tourist go there and mingle with the locals.
Went in expecting to just have wine and ended up having a full dining experience. Aside from a very large and interesting selection of wines they offer tapas style dishes. All the food i had was excellent and the service was far and beyond that ive experienced in other Charleston restaurants. An inviting full service bar stretches across the left side of the restaurant with a small exterior patio thats positioned to the right. The interior is elegant and minimalistic making the most use out of the space they have but at no time does it feel crowded at the bar or seated at a table. Prices are moderate to high but not anything more than a typical area restaurant. Parking is extremely limited since this is nestled into a neighborhood, there is two hour parking on the street otherwise walking or ride sharing is recommended.
I live right around the corner from Josephine so my wife and I checked it out a few days after it opened and were completely blown away by the food. We really expected it to be more of a wine bar with snacks type of thing, but instead the food is nearly the main attraction with the Flat Iron Steak and Polenta being our favorites (with the Duck Carnitas being a close 3rd). We came back about 2 weeks later with my parents and the sommeliere, after learning that my father is a huge fan of Bordeaux wines recommended an off the wine list selection that she'd recently acquired. It was absolutely fantastic recommendation. Seriously this place is fantastic. My ONLY note would be that often times the food comes out much faster than you can drink. So if you plan on having a glass of champagne to start or a cocktail, I'd recommend holding off on ordering food until you've nearly finished your glass as the kitchen is extremely quick. I think if they were to slow down a bit you'd have more of an opportunity to order your wine to match the food. But really, that's a minor thing and something that you can adjust for in your ordering. Visit Josephine and you won't be disappointed. -NG
