Excellent service, excellent food. Quite a surprise as I was having problems finding anything open in downtown Charleston. Part of their success is local sourcing for their food. The other part of their success is hiring great people to work for them. Highly recommended. View all feedback.
What Julie Furminger doesn't like about Tidewater Grill - Charleston:
We were in a split group, so we had a different table than some of our party. Our waiter really only cared about our table when the head man (the one who paid) visited our table. He asked the other table if they wanted dessert, but not our table, and then brought them the check. When we asked for the dessert menu and he chuckled and said I asked everyone if they wanted any and they said no, so I brought the bill. He... View all feedback.
The portion sizes were very small. We only received seven pieces of shrimp and a small serving of mashed potatoes for $22. We drove for an hour to try their prime rib, but unfortunately, they had sold out before we arrived at 6:30 on Saturday night. We were very disappointed and do not plan on returning.
The server was excellent and did a great job of making sure we were taken care of. They also followed all COVID-19 safety protocols.
I have been coming to Tidewater Grill for over 30 years, and have always found the food and service to be superb. This visit was no exception in this regard, however, it started out with an issue I want to bring up. My wife has extreme asthma and can not wear a face covering over her nose and/or mouth. My party of 6 was to be denied entry unless she would wear such a face covering. She finally used her rescue inhaler and hurried to the table where the mask was immediately removed and after a few minutes her breathing returned to normal. We were told that the face covering was required by the Governor’s mandate, and by restaurant policy. This is in error. Please bring your restaurant policy in line with the Governor’s mandate, which follows CDC recommendations that include an exemption for anyone who has trouble breathing, and a few other conditions. We will not dine here again under the conditions we were met with on this visit.
Great food and service! We celebrated our 31st Anniversary!
We were seated at the least desirable table next to the kitchen even though there were plenty of empty tables available. The service was extremely slow and although the food was decent, it was not served hot. The fried prawns had an unexpected taste similar to fried chicken. The prices were high considering the mediocre service and food quality. Overall, we were not satisfied and do not plan on returning.
