Spoon House - Champaign
Spoon House
Description
Spoon House stands out as a hidden gem in Champaign for Korean cuisine, boasting a cozy atmosphere adorned with playful Lego displays. While many diners rave about the generous portions and flavorful dishes like bibimbap and tteokbokki, some critiques highlight inconsistent food quality, particularly with undercooked rice and overcooked chicken. Positive experiences sometimes clash with less favorable encounters involving unprofessional service that detracts from the charm. Despite these mixed reviews, the restaurant remains a popular choice for those seeking authentic Korean flavors, though patrons are advised to manage their expectations around service and food consistency.

A little loud, and service can be slow at times, but food comes out quickly and is always hot. I think there a better places on campus to get Korean with similarly reasonable prices. I got the bugolgi fried rice which was standard, pretty plain, but satisfying with a fried egg on top. I'd probably recommend their kimchi jiggae more.
I really enjoyed this place! I was brought here by some friends from UIUC, and I was pleasantly surprised by the abundance of flavor and the large portion sizes. I especially loved the bulgogi fried rice and the glass beef noodles. I highly recommend it!
This place is a gem in campus. Not one of the most well known restaurants, but easily holds its own when comparing cost and flavor. The spicy Korean fried chicken here is the best I’ve had in Champaign. Prices seem to be going up and portion sizes seem to be going down unfortunately.
The food at this Mexican-Korean fusion restaurant was incredible! Upon entering, you place your order at a kiosk and then pick up your food once it’s ready, so there’s not much customer service to discuss. However, the staff was very friendly when we greeted them. The atmosphere is lively and perfectly matches the hybrid vibe and culture. I ordered a ramen dish that was absolutely delicious!
