Reviews - The Haystack
Reviews summary
Tucked into Chamois, MO, this mom‑and‑pop tavern serves hearty comfort food—standout stacked burgers (available bunless for gluten‑free diners), fried seafood specials, and cold beer—inside a friendly, small‑town bar atmosphere. Owner Scott’s hands‑on presence and welcoming staff make it a favorite for road trips and motorcycle groups, though some guests note modest portions, fries are charged separately, and occasional inattentive bar service. Overall it’s a warm, casual stop on Hwy 89/100 worth visiting for locals and travelers alike.
Was Bubba Straatmann at The Haystack a mag?
I had the pleasure of meeting the owner during my visit. I was there with a few friends as we enjoyed a road trip and hopped between bars. The people were fantastic, and the atmosphere was wonderful. It’s the ideal spot for a Sunday drive! View all feedback.
What james knipp dislikes about The Haystack:
It’s challenging for me to provide a review for Nova Place since I wasn’t within 50 miles of it yesterday. I want to give it a fair chance, and I acknowledge it’s not the restaurant’s fault that I can’t comment accurately. I'm sure it’s a well-established and good place to eat, but unfortunately, I can’t provide any feedback at this time. View all feedback.

The tacos are delicious! It is so nice to have a restaurant in town! Thank you!
The Haystack in Chamois, MO. (yes I was the center of attention-I was dressed like a leprechaun. a little girl kept staring at me like I was crazy lol) I had fried shark tenders, fried pickle spears, and onion petals. The food was great and hot. The staff was awesome and the owner Scott was tremendous.
Food is good but there is a certain bartender that has no business bartending in my opinion. Every time she is there and I go in I get totally ignored, even when it's not even busy. I'm always polite anyway but it is not reciprocated. Don't expect a tip if u can't do your job right sweetheart.

During our stay in Chamois, we ate here on a Friday night and had the catfish special. It was delicious. Included fried shrimp, hush puppies and Cole slaw. We were very satisfied with our meal. The locals might stare at you for being new in their little town, but it’s worth the stop for the food and a cold beer!
This is a fantastic spot to relax and enjoy yourself. The service is excellent, and the staff makes you feel like part of the family.
We are always 'scouting ' for new 'Mom Pops ' places to eat for our larger motorcycle club. This was a HIT! Awesome food, great prices, even better atmosphere. We love Mom Pops places and this was a great find. Perfect motorcycle roads too. Hwy. 89 or do Hwy.100. You 'll fall in love w/the place- we did.
