Nestled in the heart of CHAMA, NM, this restaurant offers a unique dining experience, particularly known for its wood-fired pizzas crafted from a 34-year-old yeast dough. While the ambiance boasts a classy decor with an inviting outdoor fire pit, customer experiences vary widely. Diners express disappointment over inconsistent food quality, including tough steaks and bland salads, while others rave about the enjoyable pizzas and friendly service. Although the service charge is automatic, many appreciate the attentive staff and excellent beer selection. For a memorable meal in this small town, it's a mixed bag that occasionally shines amidst the critiques.

One of two restaurants in Chama that I consider really good (the other is Outlaw BBQ). On our most recent visit, we had 3 pizzas: buffalo chicken (a special not on the regular menu), Yard Bird, and pepperoni. All were really good; the buffalo chicken was my favorite. I advise ordering, up front, everything you plan to drink. Having finished a great milk stout beer, and there being no sign of our food, I went back to get another and was firmly told to go to the end of the (food ordering) line. Before I got to order again, most of the beers, including the milk stout, had run dry. It was a half hour before I made it back to our table, but I did beat the pizzas.
Here 's another restaurant review brought to you by a visit to Chama (2019 . (We 're going back for sure at some point! If you 've never been to Chama it 's pretty quaint, and almost feels like you 're on a movie set. I think the Main Street is all of three city blocks, but... it 's full of activity (being a ski resort! ... and history (we rode a coal-engine train! Feeling cold and hungry we stumbled upon this gem... don 't let the exterior fool you. It used to be a drug store then it was converted into a restaurant called LOCAL which serves farm-to-table, local organic dishes. Of course, with me, pizza is always on the menu... but how can you blame me when the visual alone was so inviting... spinach and mushrooms ALWAYS go together, after all. And the employees were all super helpful, giving us their recommendations! (I love playing "ask a stranger! . #gourmetrecovery #lovemygreens #chamalocal #supportlocalsmallbusinesses
The village of Chama is small, yet majestic. Surrounded by golden aspens blooming in October. The view is breathtaking, the clouds are dreamy and deer are walking around freely. When it comes to restaurants and bars, there's like 5 to choose from, and they all seem to be made from old houses... which isn't bad at all.... But when if you keep driving through that one road that is Chama.... You'll hit this new age pizzeria!! You can't help but want to stop for a beer here!!! Local beers like ex novo and marble from Albuquerque. As well as an impressive wine list! The pizza menu is simple, yet refined. We got the Margarita pizza and the verde pizza! I'm so excited that we stopped here
Closed for renovations as notes on their website the whole town feels closed and rundown. yelp is not accurate here.
This place will never change no matter who they bring in. You need real Chefs with real wood fire experience. I was back there in 2022 and there were 2 Chefs then that were great but they quit. They should have listened to those guys bc the food was great and the place was always packed!!

The staff were friendly, the pizza was tasty, and the beer selection was intriguing. The outdoor dining area was also enjoyable. However, I noticed that a 15% service fee is automatically added to the bill. While the wood-fired pizza was delicious, it felt slightly overpriced for its relatively small size. I would have appreciated a bit more speck for the additional $2. We ordered one pizza and two beers (around 10-12 oz each), and the total came to $32.46.
The pizza and salads are incredible! The side dishes also deserve a solid 5 in my opinion. If you’re in the Chama area, it’s definitely worth a visit. Just keep in mind that they’re only open from Wednesday to Sunday.
Great pizza. the crust was something of the most shameful I had. Don't forget to try the strawberry curbcake yum!
This place is very special. A cut above in a sleepy town. The building is new and the decor is classy. The food was great; good beers on tap; great wood fired pizza; a pleasant and attentive staff.
The staff is generally friendly, except for the person making the pizzas, who was quite rude when I inquired about the status of our pizza after a 45-minute wait. There is no table service; instead, food is delivered, and tables are cleared by staff, leaving no server available for questions. The food itself was decent; the greens appeared fresh but were somewhat wilted. The antipasto had a nice variety of seasoned nuts, really good dried fruits, and a few cheeses, but the meats were bland and lacked flavor. The pizza, on the other hand, was excellent. Food from the kitchen took an excessively long time to arrive, with each course coming out over the course of an hour, making it hard for us to enjoy a meal together. Overall, it’s a place for casual dining, but the prices are quite high considering the quality of the food and service, particularly given the slow and disorganized kitchen.

The staff was very gracious when we arrived just 15 minutes before closing time, as they were the only restaurant in town still open at that hour. Even though they had mostly run out of food for the night, we thoroughly enjoyed the smoked half chicken and the patatas from what was still available. The portions were generous; my elderly father and I shared one order, and it was more than enough to satisfy us. I also really appreciated their iced tea. I liked that they grow their own herbs and garnishes in-house, which is a rare find in most restaurants. Thank you for a lovely meal!
I found this honey of a hole spot in Chama and I have to say I was delighted!!!! Completely blew me away that this place existed and it was at the start of the slow season in Chama. I did a pepperonis project here and ate here every night. Pizza 3 out of 4 nights. The Carne?.add peppercinis(if u like them , 2 sides of ranch (maybe the best ranch I have ever consumed!!!!! and a side of parmesan!!!! The other meal was the steak special!!!! Absolutely amazing!!! The wine selection was extremely impressive and the staff was knowledgeable about the wines, beer selection solid too! Service 5 stars, staff personality 5 stars, food 5 stars, ambiance 5 stars! Great job by local?.putting Chama on the map!!!! If you are passing through Chama this is a must stop!!! I put it in top 10 pizzas i have had and Ive had my share of pizza!!!! I?d like to see some green chile topping options on the menu?.thats my one critique.
Great spot to check out if in the area. Amazing wood fired pizzas, local beer sodas, great atmosphere!
This local restaurant is beautifully clean and tastefully designed, offering some of the best food I've ever tasted. Their pizzas are exceptional, made with fresh, local ingredients in a brick oven. I enjoyed the local beef, which was freshly butchered and elegantly presented—truly fantastic! I requested a fresh jalapeño, but they offered a volcano sauce that I believe was made with habanero and serrano or ancho chilis, and it was amazing. They also had a great selection of draft beers, which I didn’t try, but the people around me seemed to enjoy. I highly recommend you visit; you'll have a wonderful experience!
I dined there on a Wednesday around 5:30 PM. The restaurant wasn’t overly crowded, but several tables hadn’t been cleaned, so we had to wait for a table. I tried their special pizza featuring local sausage and mushrooms, which was excellent. I also ordered their Verde with arugula; it was delicious, although the crust was a bit soggy. The beers were great too. Overall, a solid option for pizza.
