The food was good, though we had to wait a bit longer than expected. I understand they were busy, and the freshness of the food made it worth the wait. However, I was surprised that they didn't have sopapillas, which is unusual for a New Mexico restaurant serving Mexican cuisine. That was a bit disappointing while we were eating. Overall, it's a decent place to stop when you're in the Chama area.
I hadn't visited JV's in nearly 20 years, so it was a pleasure to return and see the same beautiful, cheerful young women managing the restaurant. The food is just as good as I remembered—my favorite is the beef chalupa, although it's definitely not for the faint of heart. It's spicy!
We only get to JV's place when we camp at Heron Lake state park. A very busy place. It so worth the trip. Excellent food.
