From March Break to Thanksgiving, Mackies is opened daily. Reduced hours in Spring and Autumn. Weekends only after Thanksgiving, but it is opened for the Dickens Day Parade. Cheryl always has hot chocolate and cookies after the parade is over. The French fries are the best and they must be tried with Mackies own sauce! This is a personal favourite spot.
Stopped for dinner at Mackie's because I heard how great it was. After waiting in line like cattle I ordered fries and their signature Orangeade. I asked if the line ups were normal and the girl at the counter said the nice weather makes them long. The fries were average, bridge fries are better, the fry sauce is way too sweet, but the Orangeade was very good. I might try it again on a colder day so there's less of a line up and drink more Orangeade.
We have been to Mackies a few times over the years, and will not ever go back after our latest trip. The fries were under cooked, the sauce for them is awful. Enough said. Not the institution it used to be, and very disappointing.
We went to the beach for a family day and decided to stop in at Mackies for some lunch. My wife bit down on a nice sized pebble that was INSIDE of a french fry. While unfortunate, we're extremely thankful it wasn't one of our children. When I complained to the manager I was told that if there was any damage done to my wife's teeth, to let them know and they would forward it on to who they get their potatoes from, cause it would be on that company, not Mackies. Really? I'll never waste my money on their mediocre food again.
Mackie's is famous for their hot dogs and orangeaide and this combination on a hot day on the beach is not only fresh, tasty and affordable; but, not expensive. A family tradition for 3 generations now.
