Description

J&J Bar-B-Que is a beloved, no-frills BBQ joint serving generous, affordable plates from breakfast through dinner. Expect tender brisket, large old-fashioned burgers, crispy catfish, breakfast tacos and hearty sides like mac & cheese, pinto beans and zesty coleslaw. Friendly, attentive staff and reliable takeout make it a family favorite; portions are plentiful and flavors bold, though a few brisket pieces can run slightly dry. A welcoming, bustling spot for casual meals and gatherings.

This is my favorite BBQ spot! It’s a classic, no-frills place, but the food is fantastic, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. The staff is really friendly (shoutout to Jonathan!). I always bring my family and friends when they visit, and they love it as well. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can’t go wrong here. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve tried, and there’s nothing I wouldn’t order again!

Burgers are the best and large! But , we love the catfish over all the food. Was amazed how great the catfish tasted, and still hot after I got it home (it was a take-out order).

Mike was thrilled to see BBQ restaurants emerging all over the city. I must confess, I don’t often crave BBQ, so we haven’t explored many of these places. However, Mike was quite insistent, and I eventually relented. We decided to visit J&J Bar-B-Que one Saturday afternoon. On a side note, doesn’t it seem like trends come to Toronto in waves? There was a period when ramen shops were everywhere, and now it’s all about poke and BBQ—just look at Adamson BBQ, Cherry Street BBQ, and Smoke Signals, for example.

Labor Day Visit: I stopped by on Labor Day around 6 PM. It wasn't very busy when I arrived, but it turned out I arrived just before a rush! I ordered a brisket plate with green beans and macaroni and cheese. Some of the brisket pieces were a bit dry for my liking, but they were all tender enough that I hardly needed a knife, and they were packed with flavor. The green beans were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of pepper and bacon, and although the mac and cheese was fairly typical, it was moist and creamy. The staff at the counter and the server were both incredibly friendly and attentive. I'm looking forward to returning to try more dishes!
