With the beautiful sounds of Cathrine Summers and her band we recently spent a leisurely day celebrating our daughter's birthday at one the Swan Valley's
Located in the heart of Caversham, Riverbank Estate is one of Swan Valley's finest winery restaurant.
We went to this restaurant as it was in the Entertainment Book with a two-for one voucher. We firstly asked for some bread, which in most establishments is complimentary, but was $3 for ONE slice, per person. We then ordered our main meals. After 40-45 minutes we had to ask where our meals were. After around another 10 minutes we finally got them. I had the fillet steak, which was a rather small serving, with a few little garnishings on it. The other three people ordered various meals which were also so small. My meal was about $42, which I felt was extremely overpriced for what we got. Thankfully, the voucher saved us some money, but, as far as value for money, I would not recommend this establishment. I realise the setting is very nice etc, but I also have to see value for money, even with a voucher.
Beautiful lunch, Happy friendly staff, great view, great wines, great food, what more could you ask for?
Having visited Riverbank twice before and having enjoyed two very nice lunches and bought some excellent wine, we booked lunch for four for Saturday. It being the first Saturday of the month we were advised that there would be a live jazz band playing - which was not a problem as, although it is by no means a favourite genre of music for any of us, it would have been unobtrusive enough. The problems started on arrival just after 12:30. Initially it took more than 5 minutes for anyone to greet us and check the booking. Then, on asking if we were able to patronise the 'cellar door' to taste a few wines before lunch, we were informed that as it was the first Saturday and the live music was in progress, the usual cellar door was not in operation, but were were welcome to visit the temporary cellar door across the road. On presenting to the temporary cellar door we discovered a very limited range of wines available for tasting - and these were certainly not the best that experience has taught us Riverbank can produce. As we left the cellar door we were informed that meal entertainment cards and the extertainment book would not be accepted on this particular day. After a quick discussion we decided to find somewhere else to eat.All such a pity, because if, at the time of booking, we had been told all this we would have postponed our trip to another day.
