Castle - Cavendish
Castle
Description
Perched in a restored Vermont castle, this fine‑dining destination wows with dramatic architecture, a romantic atmosphere and private dining with a fireplace—perfect for celebrations. Cuisine is often excellent (seafood, beef Wellington) but can be uneven and pricey; prix‑fixe events are costly. Service is usually attentive and professional, though occasional lapses, strict booking policies and reservation/price communication issues were reported. Best for special‑occasion diners seeking ambiance and generous portions; not ideal for budget travelers or families with small children.

We had a fantastic dinner at Castle Hill Restaurant. We were celebrating a special birthday and booked the private dining room for our party of 6. The dining room can comfortably accommodate 10 people; it has a fireplace and is decorated gorgeously. Our server Kelly was attentive and professional. She did an amazing job. We had shrimp cocktail appetizers and French onion soup. Both were delicious. For dinner we had beef Wellington, pork chop and beef filet. Portions were generous and the food quality was outstanding. We look forward to returning the next time we are in the area.
The food needs to live up to atmosphere and ambiance. Started with the HOUSE MADE GLUTEN FREE TAMALE BRUSCHETTA and it was inedible. Second course was TOSSED LITTLE LEAF FARMS salad which was drenched in dressing. Couldn’t even finish it. Third course was the TRIO SEAFOOD OVER LOBSTER RAVIOLI and was extremely bland and not fresh. The service was ok, however drinks were not served timely, had to ask for water, and did match expectations the way the staff was presented. Conceptually all the meals sound great but the taste never lived up to the description. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant.
This place was fantastic. We went to dinner at the Castle for our wedding anniversary. We highly recommend the Beef Wellington! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Castle Beef Wellington
Really very bad experience with what we ordered. Lobster bisque soup was so salty it had to be returned. Steak ordered medium rare arrived well done. Coffee was so bitter that we couldn’t drink it. No excuse for a bad cup of coffee. They are understaffed and it was apparent. We were so hoping to have a memorable experience but that was not the case.
