We visited Saap for a weekday lunch, and while the restaurant had a decent crowd and the staff were friendly, our experience was overshadowed by a significant delay with our dessert. The food was quite good, but the wait for our mango dessert was frustrating. We had to request it several times, only to be told it would be just a couple more minutes each time. In the end, we wasted nearly 30 minutes waiting for that dessert, which caused us to miss an appointment and negatively impacted our day. Overall, I would rate the food as a 4, but the service deserves a 1, while the atmosphere was also a 4.
I don’t usually write reviews this quickly, but I have to say wow! For my boyfriend and I's first experience at a Laotian restaurant, it exceeded all my expectations. The atmosphere is bright and airy, and I absolutely love the decor. Parking was also convenient for us on a Sunday night; we snagged the fourth spot on the first floor of the parking garage, so we didn’t have to walk far. Since I’m doing dry January, I decided to try their zero-proof margarita, and it was incredible! I’ve had many margaritas before, and this one ranks in my top three. I can’t wait to try it again after dry January to see how it compares with actual tequila. Our server was kind and attentive without being intrusive, which set a great tone for the evening. I ordered the Chicken Curry while my boyfriend got the Crying Tiger. The Chicken Curry was outstanding—comforting with its thick, creamy broth and delicious pieces of chicken, carrots, and both purple and regular potatoes. My boyfriend's Crying Tiger featured a beautifully cooked steak and a refreshing papaya salad. The steak was incredibly tender and flavorful. Although it was on the pricier side at $49, it was definitely worth it for a special occasion. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant to try their food; you won’t be disappointed! This was my third visit to this hidden gem in Cary, and I stopped in for a quick solo lunch. I absolutely loved their Green Papaya Salad, and this time I added the Char Grill Ginger Pork Collar. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion of protein; it felt like a main course. It was delicious! Next time, I’ll have to try some of the other add-ons for the Papaya Salad. For the record, I was one of the first customers on a chilly February Wednesday, so the quiet atmosphere in the pictures reflects that. I know the place usually gets quite busy in the evenings. Service was excellent, and for lunch, I spent between $10 to $20.
