Back Nine Pub - Cary
Back Nine Pub
Description
Back Nine Pub, located in Cary, offers a dark atmosphere and unpretentious vibe that sets it apart from other nearby bars. The establishment mainly attracts locals but is open to new crowds as well. The service is generally friendly and quick, and the bar food, including wings and cheese fries, is pretty good. While the beer selection may not be extensive, they do have a variety of bottles available. Despite some issues with online menu accuracy and overly salty sauces, Back Nine Pub is a solid option for those looking for a dive bar experience in the area. Overall, the cozy and casual atmosphere, combined with fair prices and good service, make it a convenient spot to hang out for a few hours with friends or meet some locals.
Feedback
Tucked behind golf courses and luxury homes of Cary, Back Nine's dark atmosphere and unpretentious vibe definitely set it apart from other places you can grab a drink in the area, so you won't see a family of five eating dinner here. Go ahead and curse all you wait and consider taking up smoking if you plan on spending some time here, because everybody else does and suddenly, you should, too. Service is usually quick and the typical fried bar food is good, so by dive bar standards, Back Nine gets 4 stars.
Friendly place. Mostly locals, but they mingle with new crowds. Food was pretty good. I got wings and side of cheese fries. Wings tasted great the sauce had a bit of sweetness to it, surprised me a bit. The cheese fries were crinkle fries and shredded cheese, but could have used more cheese and heat to make it spring-like. Food priced ok. Not a great selection of beer on taps, but at least they have the bottles. A little small but good enough to meet the locals. I definitely will revisit
Tried takeout based on positive wing recommendations using their website menu as a guide. Cost turned out to be $6 higher than what it says it is online. Then I see their site has Copyright 2015 (year of review 2020) so that tells you how much effort is put into the business. Chicken fell out of the bone nicely. Problem is the sauces. Way too salty overpowering the spicy and sweet of the two sauces I selected. As for the place itself it's not very big and as others have suggested seems like a local hangout. There were people outside the few tables they have very close to the door to get in and feel like I had to stumble over them to get to the door. Walk by people smoking, no masks, etc. My advice don't go out of your way to try this place out as I did unless you're looking to become one of the locals. Plenty of similar places nearby more comfortable and better run.
Great little local bar. Good specialties and good food. Late night, when Cary hurts for the late nightlife, but that's all the more fun.
