Ixtapa - Carnation
Ixtapa
Description
Ixtapa offers a mixed dining experience, with standout dishes like poblano relleno, camarones en crema, mole enchiladas, and richly flavored Spanish rice earning high praise for authentic Mexican flavors. The friendly, attentive staff and kid-friendly amenities, including a changing table, add to its appeal. However, inconsistency is noted: some meals arrived cold or improperly prepared, with salty or soggy components and delays in service. Pricing feels steep when portions and quality falter. While many revisit for the genuine taste and warm atmosphere, occasional lapses suggest room for improvement in kitchen execution and service speed. Parking is available nearby, easing access.

Parking: There's no street parking on the main Street. Fortunately there's free parking around the block and across the street Kid-friendliness: There's a changing table in the bathroom. Very convenient.
After golfing stopped by for lunch and had a great lunch. They have mini meals with smaller mains which is great for me. I don't eat as much as I used to. My daughter had a flour tortilla with steak she loved. The guacamole was very good. Our meals came with enough sour cream and guacamole to have some with each bite. My husband wasn't in food mood. He ordered a chocolate milkshake. He's very picky about milkshakes and said this was excellent.
Didn't know you could mess up a quesadilla, but they manage to. Cheese melted on one tortilla in the broiler then the second tortilla just slapped on top. No crispy toasty tortilla, just one soggy bottom piece. Not even cut into slices to make it easy to eat. All for $20.
If you're a vegetarian, be aware that their beans are cooked with lard and their rice is prepared in chicken broth (the staff is quite open about this, thankfully). This means your options are limited to a quesadilla appetizer or a build-your-own tostada.
The service was terrible. I ordered a shrimp cocktail, but the shrimp appeared to be raw, almost like they had been left out overnight. I spoke with the waitress, who then brought over another woman, presumably a manager. When I expressed my concerns, she informed me that the shrimp were meant to be served that way. I insisted that I wanted them cooked properly, but her response was that if they were cooked more, they would become tough and unenjoyable. Frustrated, I decided to leave without finishing my meal. Overall, I had a very disappointing experience.
