While many patrons appreciate the fresh, high-quality sushi and unique dishes like their renowned barbecue rice and tempura, a notable decline in service and cleanliness has marred the experience for others. Guests report inconsistent food quality, a misunderstood cocktail menu, and a lack of attentiveness from staff. Despite some customers longing for the restaurant’s previous charm, recent management changes have sparked renewed enthusiasm among others who commend the inviting ambiance and friendly service. Robata Grill remains a location of evolving opinions, where nostalgia clashes with new beginnings.
Eating in the sushi bar made us dinner. the fire roll rocks, and the yellow **** and salmon sushi just melt in my mouth. So yes, thank you.
Hell yeah, what a spot! I’ve lived in the area for a couple years but had never heard of Robata. We recently gave it a go and absolutely loved it! Super fresh fish in their sushi, amazing miso, and great drinks! My wife had a couple martinis which were dynamite and I had a classic Alvarado Mai Tai on draft which always seems to do me right. The salmon and spicy tuna were my favorites of the night. The servers were super friendly and we’ll definitely be back!
I’ve had Robata twice now since it’s undergone new ownership and both occasions were phenomenal experiences. The new owners have done an incredible job revamping and revitalizing the restaurant and it was such a pleasure getting to discuss all of the plans they have to continue elevating the ambiance and enhancing the customer experience. The staff is warm and friendly, and each time I’ve gone, the manager, as well as one or both of the owners, stopped by to check on our table to ensure we were happy with our order. They are all so kind and made the experience truly memorable. Literally everything we ordered was delicious, but my absolute favorite dishes were the Kakiage (must try!! , hamachi carpaccio (so flavorful , tuna sashimi, and the pork ribs. We had multiple sushi rolls, soup, salad, cocktails, etc., and everything was incredibly fresh and so delicious. Can’t recommend this place enough, hats off to the new owners, we cannot wait to come back the next time we’re in town!
The Japanese food we had at this restaurant was possibly the worst I've ever had. Each dish was worse than the one before it, and we couldn't wait to leave once the sushi rolls arrived. The food was stale, bland, and overall a terrible dining experience.
I have dined at Robata in the past, but since the new management took over, the restaurant seems to be thriving. The seating is comfortable, the atmosphere is calm, and our wait staff was excellent. She was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Everyone who came to our table from the restaurant was lovely and eager to assist. The food was exceptional, and I don't say that lightly. My dining companion selected sushi, miso soup, and a house salad, while I chose the teriyaki fillet mignon and chicken, which was outstanding. The meat was tender, cooked to perfection, and served with a delicious ball of barbecue rice. I highly recommend trying the BBQ rice option! The miso soup was the best I've had on the Peninsula. Treat yourself and definitely give this restaurant a try.
