When visiting a friend, who had just moved to Teneriffe, I chose to dine at Cutty Sark after researching the many choices of dining options in the area. .I made a dinner booking for 6.30pm on a Friday night. Upon arrival I was a bit concerned the restaurant was empty. But before I tell you about this dining experience, you should know I am visiting from Sydney, I am a qualified chef, I am well travelled, and I regularly attend fine dining restaurants. Therefore, I think you can imagine how hard it is to please me. .My friend and I chose the Chef's Selection Menu consisting of 4 courses. I chose the Oyster starter, tempura soft shell crab as an entree, the eye fillet steak as a main course, and the chocolate hazelnut cake with berries and ice cream. Starting with the oyster, it was the freshest and tastiest oyster I have experienced for several years now. It was fresh and crisp and flavoursome. A great start I thought. Next I was served my Tempura Soft Shelled Crab entree. This dish was well presented and again, very flavoursome. My eye filet was cooked to perfection and it was obviously a premium cut of beef, as it just melted in my mouth. The accompaniments were fresh and flavoursome and complimented the steak. Lastly, my Chocolate Hazelnut Cake with berries and ice cream could be only described as excellent. .At the conclusion of my meal I sat in amazement as to why this restaurant is not packed with patrons. The only thing I could think of, was perhaps the decor and dinner table settings may need some work. My suggestions to the owners of this restaurant is to add white table cloths for the evening dinner sittings, with wine glasses, cutlery, and napkins. The lighting may also need updating and a bit more subdued. With these two simple changes, I would imagine there would be an increase in patronage, as the food served is nothing but excellent, and comparable to any fine dining restaurant I have dined. The service was attentive and friendly. Thank you to the chefs and staff at Cutty Sark for an excellent dining experience.
We dined as a large group (50 people) and were so impressed by the food and the service provided by this restaurant. The paella was delicious, served by a friendly personable young chef. The view of the river is just beautiful and our young teenagers were impressed by the delicious churros for dessert.
