We did not feel up to the award winning, multi- starred Cantine de Robert. However, literally across the street is an amazing Italian run by the same person, with the same chef but more affordable. The maitre d' (Christophe) is utterly charming and incredibly enthusiastic...about both the food and the wine served. He's also incredibly knowledgable. I ate the best pasta of my life (and I've eaten a LOT of pasta) with... View all feedback.
What Élodie Roger doesn't like about Rodriguez Robert:
We chose this restaurant because The Lonely Planet rated it their "Top Choice" in Carcassonne, but it is the last time we will consult that book. Our meal here was disappointing at best. The smoked salmon entree was nothing special. My Scallop dish consisted of THREE scallops in their shells buried in finely chopped vegetables for 34.50 euros. My wife's lamb sweetbreads were forgetable. Without dessert, our total was... View all feedback.
We had dinner at the restaurant rodriguez on a quiet Saturday night. the greeting was gracious and the dining room charming. the extensive menu, which explains where each main ingredient was produced, gave a real insight into how serious the chef is to use local ingredients....Our appetizers were beautified mushrooms and home smoked salmon surrounded perfectly steamed kartoffels and crumbled. both couldn't be better. then we had the cassoulet, which was ecligious and tasty, again every component was perfect. we spluged throughout poched pears filled with chestnut cream. the wine list was appropriate with many regional choices. it was one of the best meals we had during our journey through South West France. our caps are from the chef and from the staff.
Eating bad quality, overpriced and riding from the michelin rated restaurant opposite, very disappointing
We have eaten twice now at this fabulous restaurant and I can't recommend it enough. It was just wonderful to take our time and enjoy every delicious mouthful, the excellent service and the fascinating surroundings. We took a friend who was celebrating his birthday and...it couldn't have been more perfect for the occasion. Such a joy!
This is a highly idiosyncratic restaurant. It is like being a gust in someone's rather odd house. You have to ring a bell to be allowed in. You are shown in past the kitchen to a tine restaurant. The room itself is a collection of interesting old bric a brac and has a lot of character and charm. When we were there we were the only on locals. The menu is limited but the food was of a really high standard. My wife is vegetarian and she really enjoyed her main course. My chicken was also excellent. The desserts were sublime. The evening was a real experience - in a tourist town like Carcassonne where little care is taken in most restaurants and everything is over priced we felt that this was probably the best and most memorable restaurant in the town - if you are looking for really good food, served in a one-off environment in a very French way. I am sure it is not everyone's cup of tea, which is why it is certainly not bland.
Although wonderful traditional restaurant setting the French menu was complicated and the English translation wasn't much better. I particularly remember 'slobbery omelette' and Sheepshead stroked by my cousin on the mountains. Quite pretentious and clearly not welcoming for English tourists. The information was so confusing we left before eating.
