Seriously good bbq. Definitely would recommend! Being from the south, it can be hard to find bbq that hits the spot.
When I placed the order online, I mistakenly thought I was ordering from the truck, which is partially my fault. However, I believe it would be helpful for them to display the food truck's phone number on their website. When I arrived at the truck to pick up my order, I was politely informed that my food was actually at the store, so I made the half-hour drive there. On the way, I called the store 11 times, only to receive an automated message each time. Eventually, they called me to ask if I was still coming for my order. I explained my delay and mentioned the phone issues, but they just responded with, "That's interesting. How much farther away are you?" I found that a bit rude, but I let it go. When I arrived, they were in the process of packing our food, and I appreciated that it was freshly prepared considering the communication challenges. The employee there apologized for the phone problems, mentioning it had been down for the last hour. I suggested they consider using call forwarding, and he said he would look into it. Overall, the pick-up experience was pleasant, and the staff seemed friendly. Once we got home and tried the food, it was decent. My fiancé had the sausage, and I ordered chicken. I would have liked a bit more meat in my dish, but I still enjoyed it. He particularly liked the coleslaw and mac and cheese, although he found the sausage a little dry. The mac and cheese seemed slightly overcooked, which could be attributed to the half-hour drive home. As for the roll and cornbread muffin, they seemed store-bought and weren't anything special. The muffin was small and dense; I only managed to eat half of it before deciding to toss the rest. I'm not sure if we'll give this place another try, but I wish the owners and their family the best of luck.
How has it taken me so long to discover this place?! Seriously, their BBQ and sides are the best I’ve had in a long time, and I'm from the South! Back in Jacksonville, we had so many great BBQ options, and I've been really disappointed since moving to Minnesota. We ordered the Cluckin Heiffer, which featured a variety of meats (chicken, brisket, turkey, sausage), and oh my gosh, it was incredible! It came with sides, so we chose mashed potatoes, corn, and smoked mac and cheese, and every single one exceeded my expectations. I also ordered collard greens (a southern staple that I'm obsessed with), and wow—I was shocked! I haven't had good collard greens since my last trip down South. We also tried the fried okra (so good!) and coleslaw (yummy). My kids loved everything, but they were especially obsessed with the cornbread muffins. I barely got one bite before they devoured the rest! Oh, and my husband specially ordered fried gizzards (another southern favorite), and I haven’t seen him this happy in ages! This place has definitely become a new favorite, and we plan to visit weekly for as long as they're around.
While we were there, it seemed like they had a decent amount of takeout and delivery orders through Grub Hub and Door Dash. My son received his pulled pork sandwich and cheese sticks fairly quickly, while I waited for my meal. He ended up finishing his food before I even got mine. I sampled his meal, but found the pulled pork to be quite bland. When my food arrived, I found the BBQ to be just average. The ribs had little flavor, even though they were dry-rubbed, which made me want to try them without any sauce first. Unfortunately, they were pretty plain. Adding the sauce didn’t help much either; it was just okay. It seems they may be trying to cater to those who prefer milder flavors, which I’d describe as “Minnesota bland.” The brisket had a bit more taste, but still didn’t reach the flavor profile I expected. My meal came with two sides and a small store-bought dinner roll served with honey butter, which felt like a strange choice. There was an ample amount of food, as I ordered BBQ Cowboy Beans (also bland) and hickory-flavored fries (which lacked any hickory taste). I really wanted to leave a better review, but unfortunately, that was my overall experience.
Was in Rochester for work and we used true smoke to cater a lunch for clients. The food was so good I stopped on my way home and picked up dinner for myself and one of my business clients. It is a family run business that is innovative in their menu, so I look forward to going back again to try some of their other barbecue meats and excellent side dishes. The collard greens, corn and beans were excellent. All of the meats in the sampler were exceptional
