Favourite dumpling in Toronto! Never disappoints! Particularly love pork and fennel dumpling but all the other dishes are really good too!
We ordered some boiled dumplings, some pan-fried dumplings, and a plate of Yangzhou fried rice. The rice arrived, but we had no bowls or plates, just the spoons. When we inquired about plates, we were told they had run out, so I asked if they had any takeout containers. They offered us some Styrofoam bowls, which were sufficient for sharing the rice. The rice was quite good, and the dumplings were cooked and fried nicely. You can actually see them wrapping dumplings by the front window, so at least they’re freshly made (hopefully for actual customers and not just for show). Some other reviewers mention this place has a somewhat authentic vibe, and I must say, the service really contributes to that feeling. Honestly, if they had just handed us Styrofoam bowls from the start, I would have thought it was their usual practice and that they were being practical, especially since if you're full and want to take leftovers home, you already have your containers ready!
I visited this restaurant with a friend on a whim after we saw the cook preparing dumplings fresh in the window, which really caught our attention. It was quite quiet when we arrived on a Saturday around 4 PM. We both decided to try the pork and leek dumplings—my friend opted for the steamed version while I went for the fried ones. The fried dumplings were decent but nothing exceptional, while the steamed dumplings had a bit more flavor; they were juicier and seemed to have a bit more filling. Overall, both options met my expectations for a dumpling dish. While this place isn’t the best dumpling restaurant I’ve been to, if you find yourself in the area with a craving, Meet Dumplings certainly delivers.
This is a lovely spot for a quick meal with excellent service. We visited on a Saturday evening, and the restaurant wasn't overly crowded, so we were seated without delay. The menu features a solid selection of appetizers, particularly a variety of dumplings with both boiled and pan-fried options. They clearly state how many pieces you can expect: 15 for boiled and 12 for pan-fried, which is helpful. The dumplings are made fresh on-site, as they are wrapped in the front and then cooked in the back, ensuring they are deliciously fresh. Being in downtown, prices are higher than what you might find in Markham, but they are reasonable considering the generous portions. The dumplings were juicy and perfectly cooked; I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and felt satisfied, all for under $25!
The decor is straightforward and somewhat outdated, but honestly, the focus here is on the food and the great company. You wouldn't necessarily guess it from the name! The prices are excellent for the portion sizes, although if you're a foodie looking for something exceptional, this place might not meet those expectations, as it's really just simple comfort food that you could make at home. Unfortunately, it seems that they are mostly closed for the time being. I wonder if they might be offering delivery, as they may be facing challenges in meeting health and safety protocols given their small space and open layout at the front of the shop. I hope that the hardworking family running the restaurant is getting some well-deserved rest in the meantime!
