What Margaret Gallagher doesn't like about Number Forty Two Kitchen:
I had a disappointing and awkward experience at No. 42. Two friends and I were visiting Campbeltown and decided to have dinner there on a Friday night. Two of us ordered the duck, but it was served so rare it was practically inedible—we couldn’t even cut through it. The vegetables were fine, and the fish and chips were delightful. Be sure to make a reservation, as the food here is truly exceptional! Service: Dine-in Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Best fish I’ve ever had. Not quite enough mushy peas but I asked for a few more but arrived a tad too later than expected. I would definitely eat here again. The tartare sauce was really good too and this beetroot salad sides was delicious but I couldn’t eat it again because my teeth are not the greatest but that’s a whole other story Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
For dessert, we tried the “When Life Throws You Lemons” option, which consisted of four mini sweets. Only one of them contained lemon—a sorbet—while the others looked appealing but tasted quite bland. The waitress was lovely and offered an apology, but she seemed stressed and the restaurant appeared to be understaffed for the number of guests.
Cozy restaurant with freshly prepared dishes. We visited for three consecutive days and enjoyed a different fantastic menu each day. The dishes are finely seasoned and beautifully presented. From the moment you enter Number 52, the promise of freshness is clear. They pride themselves on serving exceptionally fresh fish, and the careful attention to quality stands out. The expertly sliced tuna sashimi melts in your mouth, while the robust flavors of the prawns, salmon, and langoustine are cooked to perfection. Their garlic butter adds an aromatic charm that enhances each dish without being overwhelming. If you're looking for a dining experience where spices and ingredients come together in a delightful symphony of flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit. Every bite showcases their commitment to quality and culinary skill. Highly recommended!
