What Edith Jost doesn't like about Lihiniya:
We visited this place recently and spent about for horrible pre prepared food which was heated. I am a Sri Lankan and I know how our food are being processed. There was only two middle age people, person who served us was wearing a...scarf with a winter coat. The service was very poor and fortunately I did not use the toilet before the meal, according to my wife it was disgusting. I feel sorry for those two individua... View all feedback.
I went to the restaurant with my family for the Sunday buffet. The food was delicious, authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, made with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. There was a wide variety of dishes and accompaniments. The decor was authentic and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The service was impeccable and we were made to feel very welcome. This place is a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered.
I have purchased from this jeweler before and have always been very happy with their products and the advice they provide. I was even more pleased to learn that they have recently opened an office in the UK. I just received a beautiful star sapphire ring with pink sapphires that is truly one-of-a-kind. Thank you!
I am a Sri Lankan who has been coming to this restaurant for years. I usually get takeout, and Mepali is very accommodating if you want any changes in the preparation. She and her husband are very friendly. We have served many of Mepali's meals to our friends over the past 13 years, and they have always loved it. Some of our friends find the food too spicy for their taste, but many of them end up ordering from Lihiniya themselves. The restaurant itself is quite basic, so dining in may feel more like a street food experience rather than a fancy restaurant. However, this is typical of local restaurants in Sri Lanka, where the focus is on the food rather than the ambiance. I saw a negative review from another Sri Lankan, which motivated me to share my experience. If you want to impress someone and showcase Sri Lankan cuisine, then perhaps consider going to Hoppers. Expecting a high-end experience at Lihiniya is like expecting low prices at The Ivy. This restaurant offers authentic Sri Lankan home cooking, just like dining back home, with all its quirks. If you are looking for a fancy night out with all the frills, do some research and try a different place.
We popped in on a Friday evening at about 8pm to find the restaurant completely empty. The charming lady running the kitchen that evening asked us if we wanted to try some Sri Lankan food. We weren't offered a menu but were happy to be told what was on offer and try it out. We each had a large plate of light fluffy rice with some vegetables, dahl and beans, chicken and a couple of sambals and a hard boiled egg. This was accompanied by a jug of a delicious coconut curry gravy. We ordered a third portion to take home to our son and my wife an I shared a large bottle of Sri Lankan beer while we waited for our food to be cooked. The whole bill came to £20 which is fantastic value in this day and age. The really shocking thing to me is that no one else came in while we were there at such a peak time. The food, the service and the value for money were all excellent so if you are in the area, why not give Lihiniya a try.
