My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at this restaurant with friends from Edinburgh. We had an excellent experience overall, from the warm welcome to the attentive service throughout the evening. The food was intriguing and varied, matching the high quality of the service we received. This is definitely a restaurant we would visit again and would recommend to all our friends and family. For my starter, I had the stuffed quail, and it was delicious. I then ordered the hanger steak for my main course. Although I couldn’t finish it, it was also quite tasty. The food itself was really delicious and cooked to perfection; however, we definitely needed more time between courses.
Overall, I was left feeling dissatisfied with the service, which really impacted our evening. We had hoped to enjoy more time in... View all feedback.
The bread and oil with balsamic vingar were excellent to nibble on beofre our mains arrives. We then both chose fish from the 'specials ' menu; one halibut and one monkfish. Both were very well cooked, most tasty and served with interesting sides. Highly recommended. We were going on to the theatre and let our waitress know that we had to finish our meal in good time and she ensured that we were served and had plenty of time for a leisurely coffee to end our meal. Overall a very pleasing experience
Argh all our food came out within 20 minutes. Thats nibbles, starter and main meal. I couldnt digest it fast enough, so didnt eat all my main. Very dissapointed. Complained to manager who said that he has requested the kitchen to slow down. A bit late for us though! I had the potted squiral for starter and that was lovely. Then hanker steak for main but although i couldnt finish it, it was lovely. Couldnt fault the food, it was really tasty and cooked to perfection. But really could have done with more time between the meals. Im really dissapointed by the service and it ruin our night, as we had hoped that we could spend more time at the chop house, but were finished within 25minutes of arriving. And £70 down. Its quite expensive to dine there so was a treat for me and my hubby.
Great food and service, lovely ambience. Handled a garlic allergy well, waitress helpful and knowledgeable about menu.
Great food and service. The best ambiance is found down stairs, with many step up and down moments to get around so not best for those with disabilities. Much of the charm of the place is in the nooks and crannies and so doesn't lend its self to buggies or very large groups of people max comfortable seating is probably 6. But it is a really lovely place with a great deal of character, somewhere you can disappear into for a while with some good seasonal food.
We've been twice to the cambridge chop house and both times we enjoyed the ambiance and loved the food. As we needed early bookings, we were able to take advantage of the early pre-theatre offer which is excellent value. The service was great, but we were not rushed. We will definitely come again.
