So sad that this restaurant has lost its way! we came to a very empty restaurant around 18.30 clock to be asked if we have booked and to say that we have booked, it felt uncomfortable and we said if they have not been in place. we would not go a problem! they quickly found us a table next to two other tables taken in an otherwise empty restaurant. we were invaded by flying and hit them all the time we were there! we ordered the bark espatada regional, that is a very traditional type of cooking of bark meat. the bark had no taste of sea salt, garlic and rose petals. I've been coming to madeira since the early 1980s and never had such a bad food. we talked to the nativity after we had paid, and said how disappointing the whole experience was and told him we were not back and we were regular visitors on the island. He was so not interested. as sad as it was a very good restaurant a few years ago and now it is just a second guess tourist spot
Excellent opportunity I had visited this place, very attentive people and always attentive to each customer. very tasty and well seasoned food. worth the visit!
We have eaten here at 3 nights, tried various dishes, all were absolutely delicious! the goat and rabbit stew are amazing! the portions are really generous (a part can easily feed 2 people! . the location is really beautiful, in the mountains. the service was...also excellent!
This restaurant was restored by natives. as tourist we have a lukewarm service. had to wait for 1 hour and 45 minutes for our meals. all the other natives around us arrived later and even paid a desert while we did not even ours. in my opinion, this is a personal racist. the food quality was bad. the fish was boiled and dry. the bill was high and the personal unfriendly. they are warned as tourist. don't go there. the guests smoke inside and the personal did not even disturb. there are much more and better restaurants on madeira that are friendly for foreigners.
From poncha on our arrival to coffee our meal was exceptional and fantastic value for money. While to some it may seem expensive but the portions are huge. Between us we had sopa de trigo, tomato and onion soup with Bolo de caco. Mains were...ribs, rabbit stew, lamb chops, turkey and the most succulent suckling pig. Sides of sautéed potatoes, vegetables, rice w/beans and Milho Frito, all of which totally defeated us. We found room for desserts too. Staff were fantastic and the restaurant interesting with its artefacts. Just loved every minute.
